Nijmegen - Cologne: Any advice ?

Next week I am off to walk another German camino, the Nordrheinische Jakobsweg from Nijmegen to Koln. Planning is all rather straightforward: hop on a train to Nijmegen and start walking (including the pleasure of crossing a national border). I have a good German guidebook - but do not expect to get lost anyway, I can always just follow the river Rhine. Quite looking forward to walk through this part of Germany - I have passed through it many times by train and bus, but am keen to discover it on a slower pace.

But anyway. If anybody has walked this camino, and has any advice or 'Geheimtipp' about what to see, where to stay, and where to eat, please let me know !

My family roots from the Rhine / Mosel Valleys.
Will you walk up to Cologne or further?

Cologne is my destination, as I have two weeks. Want to walk further (untill Trier), but this will have to wait for another year.

All went very well, although different as expected.
I did not start in Nijmegen but in Elten (close to the Dutch border) to Emmerich, and then via Rees (not actually on the Jakobsweg) via Xanten to Rheinberg. As all accomodation was full in Rheinberg (due to some local festival) I changed direction and went to Wesel. There I decided not to continue to Cologne, but to walk back on the Jacobsweg, via Marienbaum, Kalkar and Kleve, and back to the Dutch border.

Maybe an odd thing to do, as my ‘pilgrim mindset’ told me to keep on walking towards the end destination. But I really enjoyed the landscape I had been walking in, and wanted some more of it. The shores of the Rhine are really beautiful, many wide open spaces which I loved. And I spent many hours sitting on benches at the riverside, watching the boats pass by. Cologne will have to wait for another day ( I suppose it will still be there for a while)....
