I had spent a difficult night in the albergue in Estella, then not so clean and very neglected - after passing the beautiful but also neglected San Miguel church perhaps I should have been warned. Up and out next morning and standing by the wine fountain of Bodegas Irache. I usually carry a small water bottle from the plane 125cc for the occasional indulgence, a bit of Aguardiente before going to sleep. Aguardiente? Spanish Firewater-not for the faint hearted! Not in the best of moods that morning, my little bottle was empty, so when I pulled up in front of the fountain I hatched a sinister plan. Slyly filling my Aguardiente bottle with the wine, then walking down to the Left Fork through the hills and certainly not to the right and out to the highway, I found myself on a cool but sunny hillside, 1030 contentedly consuming that chorizo, the last of my Idiazabal cheese, and the wine purloined from the Bodega. Happiness restored!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Love that 'left fork' route... so much nicer walking through the trees. Will consider taking more than my usual 'shell full' of wine next time and follow fully in your footsteps

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
