Pilgrim arrivals first quarter

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
Wow, it is good, perhaps in a not so good way. And imagine of they were able to monitor those who do not complete the pilgrimage?

Easter pilgrims were in March this year. Last year they were in April. That skews the quarterly statistics quite a bit. When we can compare the first four months of each year, it will be a more valid statistic (and the numbers will be up after records in January and February) than the "gee whiz" of the newspaper article. The decade-long steady increase is quite amazing. Repeat pilgrimages are becoming standard, so that is a factor. If returning pilgrims lose interest for whatever reasons, the steady growth may stop. Many enjoy their first camino enough that they want to walk the alternatives, so there is a lot of growth in the non-Frances statistics.

We don't have to understand it to enjoy it! Still, it provides food for thought, keeping our minds active while our bodies prepare for the next walk...

I agree with Falcon. Let's see the stats a month from now and look at four months, year-to-date, side-by-side. After that, THEN we can collectively go into Chicken Little mode...
