Quietest day of week to leave SJPP?

I too am interested to find this out. My gut says most leave SJPdP between Saturday and Monday as most would start vacation at that time. Interesting topic though. Could affect start time planning for many of us that have a bit more flexibility in our Camino.

I also am not aware of any statistics on the subject so let us put on our Sherlock Holmes Deerstalker hat and figure it out. The question is not how many leave but how many arrive and plan to leave the next or following days. Saturdays and Sundays all over France and Spain have fewer lines running and fewer buses on the road therefore Saturday and Sunday there will be fewer people actually arriving in St Jean. Sunday would be a good time to hear mass before setting off so about 11-1200 there will be a serious rush for Orrison, those with stout legs and brave hearts may even try to go beyond – not the best idea even for Samson. Monday will have the combined remainders of Saturday and Sunday leaving out early a good choice, the bus from Bayonne comes in late-ish so not a large number but I would surmise that Tuesday will probably have the least – an all but empty village one bus arriving with people who are busy with last minute arrangements seems to be the least. After that, its real speculation since everyone walks at different speeds and according to different itineraries and preferences. The real bottleneck is Hornillos, first stop after Burgos-plan that one well and do a short day or truck it on to San Bol or Hontanas

Yes, I got caught out there first time and walked on to Hontanas, although I think there was still space on a floor somewhere. There had been quite a bit of rain the day before, so perhaps more people than usual had decided to take a rest day in Burgos.

I'm sure the pilgrim office in SJPP would be able to tell us which days are busiest, even if it's just anecdote rather than hard stats, although I suspect they'd have those as well. I think I was asked to fill in a form for statistical purposes, but I guess it depends how they store the data.

About twice as many start at SJPdP as Roncesvalles. The most start from Sarria, but SJPdP is second, followed by Leon, Cebreiro, and Roncesvalles.
