I will be leaving St. Jean on April 9th. Orisson will not take a reservation in advance due to not knowing if the route will be open. If they are open, but full, how do I summon a taxi to return to St. Jean for the night? Will Orisson call for me? Is it common for people to do this?
Thanks,
Dave

If Orisson was fully booked you might ask to stay in their near-by Kayola gite and still have meals at their refuge. Or consider walking down to the gite at the Ithurburia farm in Huntto/Hounto ( see this link ). You can also reserve there.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Hi Dave

The above options are good considerations. However if you are wanting to head back down, yes Orisson will call for you. It was approx a half hr wait, so if you're having lunch there you might want to call part way through (or not. . . .if it's a nice clear day you can continue to absorb every moment of the beauty that lies before you. It was very foggy when I did this last fall so there literally was no view). I believe it cost approx 20€, but that can be confirmed when they call.

Buen Camino!
