Photo of a photo (pre-digital cameras) taken in 2004, somewhere in the last 100 kilometres. It was so crowded that all the local schools opened their gymnasiums as pilgrim shelters. And we had a ball! Everyone shared what they had, everyone was good natured, tolerant and friendly. And we were so grateful, just to have a roof over our heads.

Please mention at which time of the season this was taken  These fabulous situations happen ever more during the months of July and August, when the holidays are in full swing.

2004 and 2010 were both "Holy Years of Jubilee" where the St. James Day, July 25, fell on a Sunday. During Holy Year the number of pilgrims goes up.

Having patience, tolerance, generosity and a sense of adventure makes these "No room at the inn" situations during Holy Year a lot of fun.

The next Holy Year is not until 2021

Fraluchi and Skilsaw, yes, it was a Holy Year, and we arrived in Santiago on Friday 23rd July, in time for the great celebrations on the Sunday. It was just amazing to be in Obradeiro Square on the Sunday night for the reenactment of the burning and rebuilding of the cathedral. A once in a lifetime experience.
