Time of past OR future Camino
Starting April 1st 2016, probably the Norte.
Hello! My wife and i will be starting our first camino next April 1st, and are leaning toward doing el norte, but first starting in St. Jean so we can cross the Pyrenees and walk into Pamplona, and from their taking a bus or train to San Sebastian to start el camino del norte.

Any thoughts on this? Might there be other options where we can still do the Pyrenees, but avoid the bus/train connection? We love the idea of walking in Basque land and being near the coast, but would like to still start in St. Jean.

thanks, we are getting excited!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
lemenos,

See this recent Forum thread regarding the possibility of walking from Roncesvalles to Irun to pick up the Camino Norte. Thus you might consider going through the Pyrenees from SJPdP to Roncesvalles and then using small local paths and the rugged Spanish GR11 in part to arrive at Irun.

Happy planning and Buen camino to you both!

MM, thanks! Appreciate the tip. Is that translation still available?

Try not to miss the first stage of the Norte - from Irun to San Sebstian. It's spectacular - and one could argue that it's more strenuous than SJPdP -> Roncesvalles.
