Starting before SJPP

Burgos to Muxia 2016

I am thinking about walking my Camino Frances starting some 150 km (say - a week) before SJPP, in France. Is it much different from walking in Spain? What maps, places would you recommend?

That's a great idea if you have the time. The French Basque Country is wonderful. Wherever you start from you won't regret it. Dayton

It is different. It is VERY quiet from Lourdes, so I suggest the Le Puy route so that you have some fellow pilgrims.

I will be visiting friends in Marseille prior to my Camino. Perhaps I should start from there? I have plenty of time.

Or you can start in St. Palais where two of the French routes come together, and a third from Le Puy joins just shortly afterwards. It is a beautiful walk.
