Has anyone ever used a taxi from Augapesada to Trasmonte to avoid the 2.8km climb?
I doubt my partner could manage due to knee problems.

Those are tiny settlements with no services beyond the local bars. Any taxi would need to be pre-arranged or, if called from the bar, likely to involve an extended wait.

I’ve always found the descents more challenging when I’ve had knee trouble and along that route what goes up goes down again. Perhaps your companion should consider the bus direct to Negreira from Santiago.
The entirety of the route to Fisterra and Muxia contains some slopes that may be a challenge to your companion. Up and down the Alto Mar do Ovellas is just the first
