Any suggestions on where to get on and off the train to avoid walking through Bilbao? I not crazy about city walking. I’m in Bilbao now getting over jet lag and enjoying the town and will soon start out from Irun.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Head down to the station. They will have all the details and timetables you need. There is al line that runs all along the coast. You will also need to get the train at Betanzos to avoid the notorious railway bridge.

Hi @Lihaseso! Do you mean when you are walking the Camino and passing through Bilbao? If so, there is an excellent metro service that many pilgrims take to avoid city walking.

There are many stations throughout the city - the station in Casco Viejo (also named Zazpikaleak) is right underneath the stairs that you walk down on the Camino route! From there, you can take one of 2 metro lines (depending on which side of the river you want to be on).

One will take you to Portugalete (station name), where there are Albergues. The other line is on the other side of the river. If you get off at the station called Areeta, it is a short walk to the hanging bridge - which many walkers like to take - to Portugalete.

Buen Camino!

Perfect!! Thank you so much!
