Hi, I've searched the Alsa bus routes and it doesn't like going to Portugal! Each time I write Santiago de Compostela to Porto it is rejected. Any clues? I want to bus back to Porto after my Camino. Thanks, Poppy

Thank you Michael - international is the clue! I forgot about borders ... The timetable for next October will appear in due time. P xIt's working for me. From their main page, have you chosen the international route? Is your trip more than 6 months away? I looked for one at the end of this month and is said that one bus was available that day for 58 euros.
Duh! Yes, it works - silly me!Click the 'International' tab before entering origin and destination.
Hi.
I bussed from Santiago to Porto in 2013.
It was great. Nice comfortable bus.
Its a good idea to book a head. I booked my ticket (at the bus station three days before) and was glad I did as it was fully booked on the day.
Dont forget there is a timezone difference between Spain and Portugal.
There is a taxi stand at the Porto bus stop as well if you need one.
Whariwharangi!!!! Gosh you are amazing with your knowledge of transport sites. You always blow me away with the links you find. Kia ora nui!

Poppy, I'm having the same issues, too. I'm trying to book April/May...I'll keep trying—let me know if you have success.
Once arriving in Santiago and applying for your Compostela, almost next door to the pilgrims office is the Santiago tourist information where you can book your busticket if you do not like to walk to the busstation which is 20 minutes from the center. Booking one day ahead is doable . Most pilgrims stay another day in Santiago so you will have time enough to walk to the busstation or buy a ticket at the tourist info. We stayed in the hostal la Salle which is pretty close to the busstation.Poppy, I'm having the same issues, too. I'm trying to book April/May...I'll keep trying—let me know if you have success.
Okay, I have done it these ways via Vigo and not via Vigo. Vigo is nice enough to relax in if you feel like it. Nothing needs booking in advance, there are so many ways I would just let chance have its way.
1 slow trains,
2 fast train,
3 train and bus,
4 bus,
5 walk,
6 taxi and train,
7 Tui bus and walk over the bridge and train,
8 hitch hike and slow train from Valenca.
8 was the most fun.

We travelled back to Porto last year, beginning of June and there was place enough. The bus stopped in Vigo and at the Porto airport before its stop in Porto nearby a metro stop.
This year we booked a room via smartphone app AIRBNB at the house of private people just oposite the busstation, one minute walk. I bought my ticket one day before just on arriving No trouble at all .
Hi Poppy - I am planning a similar trip - my original plan was to hire a car at Santiago de Compostela and return it in Lisbon but the price for cross border journey is silly money. Plan B bus from SdC to Porto leaving at 12:00 arriving 15:00 and then collect a car at Porto airport. I tried looking for buses in May but that is too far in advance checked for a Wednesday in Feb to see if the journey was possible and the bus leaves at 12:00 from price is 33Euro. Trains appear to take significantly longer!Hi, I've searched the Alsa bus routes and it doesn't like going to Portugal! Each time I write Santiago de Compostela to Porto it is rejected. Any clues?
