Transport Option from Madrid Airport to City Centre

Time of past OR future Camino
cycled from Pamplona Sep 2015;Frances, walked from St Jean May/June 2017. Plans to walk Porto 2020
Hola - I (as many will now know) am riding my bike on the Camino (starting from Pamplona). Now I have sorted the issue of travel from Madrid to Pamplona, but have concerns about travel from Madrid Airport to City Centre (I have a hotel not far from Atocha Station). I have travelled on the airport/city bus - which I recall had room for travellers luggage - but I doubt it would have room for a bike (in a cardboard travel pack - say 120-150 cm in length). I seem to recall that there is a metro from the airport - but getting to my destination required a change of line at some point.
So does anyone have any experience with this problem and/or any transport options. If it helps I am arriving in Madrid around 1400 (2.00 PM) on a Tuesday (in September). Cheers.

I would take the Cercanias train - this is a city/suburban rail line run by Renfe, the same company that runs the long distance rail in Spain. You'll see the signs in the airport - its a red circle with a backwards white "C" in the middle. There is a Cercanias station at the airport - T4. You can get a train directly to Atocha - the trip takes about a half hour.

Thanks for the advice, however as there will be two of us I found a limo service that will take the bike - for around E25. Cheers
