You have to love the motivational graffitis on the Camino

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
I liked the graffiti on the underpasses. An interesting mix of motivational, political and separatist. There were lots of messages that I think of as "faux deep" that made me laugh - especially by some group calling themselves the "Holylanders" (or something like that). Then, in the final 100 km, the "Holylanders" left a big message: "buen tourismo". I thought that was awfully snarky for a group of people who obviously saw themselves as particularly enlightened and deep. Ha!

Ah yes! Holylanders! For whatever reason, whenever I was feeling down or that my pilgrimage was not going as it should, and I would see Holylanders' message about "To the end, to the truth!" it got me back in the right frame of mind. I mentioned this to a girl I was walking with who started in Sarria and how I hadn't seen any graffiti from them in awhile. I said, "Maybe they got hurt and had to end their Camino. Or maybe they got caught or something."

"Or," she said, "maybe they just ran out of spray paint!"

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I have a hard time believing that graffiti writers actually think what they spray paint will convince somebody of their cause. It worked the opposite for me: anybody resorting to graffiti to make a point automatically started with a strike against them for me. Why would I want to listen to somebody who thinks they are entitled to deface public property?

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I liked the serial graffiti between Arzua and Santiago, one line at a time, of John Lennon's Imagine written on the plastic waste bins.
