but only the ones in the underpasses - a plague to the people who scribble on the milestones (and rocks and trees)

I liked the graffiti on the underpasses. An interesting mix of motivational, political and separatist. There were lots of messages that I think of as "faux deep" that made me laugh - especially by some group calling themselves the "Holylanders" (or something like that). Then, in the final 100 km, the "Holylanders" left a big message: "buen tourismo". I thought that was awfully snarky for a group of people who obviously saw themselves as particularly enlightened and deep. Ha!
I saw those too, loved them!I liked the serial graffiti between Arzua and Santiago, one line at a time, of John Lennon's Imagine written on the plastic waste bins.
Ah yes! Holylanders! For whatever reason, whenever I was feeling down or that my pilgrimage was not going as it should, and I would see Holylanders' message about "To the end, to the truth!" it got me back in the right frame of mind. I mentioned this to a girl I was walking with who started in Sarria and how I hadn't seen any graffiti from them in awhile. I said, "Maybe they got hurt and had to end their Camino. Or maybe they got caught or something."
"Or," she said, "maybe they just ran out of spray paint!"
