Hi John,

there is a daily mass with pilgrim´s benediction every morning at 8.30.

The Pilgrim Office in Triana is open in the evenings.

Pilgrim office Seville

According to their schedules it seems that they expect more pilgrims in summer than in spring. So hopefully I will not have to walk alone when I start on May 29/30.

Pilgrim passports are also available at the hostel "Triana Backpacker´s" where I will start my journey.

WHEN i started from Sevilla some years ago, there was a very long queue to get into the cathedral. One of the guards noticed that I was a peregrino and showed me the way to another entrance into a small chapel where there also was an office with stamps etc. which the priest gave me after the mass that was going on.
I guess you can ask for puerta de peregrinos.

Thanks for the replies. Just as a point of closure, I did find the cathedral site that offers skip the line tickets with preset times to get in when the cathedral is open for short periods during holy week.

Also, in one of the links that someone sent me it shows that the confraternity office is closed during holy week.

I would never consider to start in Seville during holy week or during "feria do abril". Everything is crowded, public life comes to a breakdown and hotels charge triple fees. Rather aim to reach another town, e. g. Salamanca or Zamora for holy week.

Isn't that the definition of a "festival"? Holy week in Seville is a major cultural event in the area. Granted crowds, overcrowding, etc. are part of the environment. But I have a room in a hotel that has a restaurant if all else fails. I am looking forward to seeing what transpires during this time. The only thing I'll probably regret is not staying for Good Friday when the 60 or so pasos are carried to their churches. I had the opportunity to see one carried in a practice procession and it's quite amazing. Between the decoration on the pasos and the very very loud band playing followed by the dressed entourage it's quite the show of devotion (or decadence depending on your leanings). This all happens in the early morning hours of Good Friday (when I start walking) so I may have some detours to take :)

I'm headed to Sevilla to start the VDLP in mid April (Easter Week). Is there a starting credencial stamp available at the Cathedral? The website seemed to show it not really open to visitors but didn't know if there was an adjoining shop or such.
Yes. I got mine immediately after the 8am Mass in the Cathedral, when there are very few people around. Just follow the priests to the sacristy as they leave and wave your credencial. They will know what you want.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

I obtained my stamp yesterday. I went up the line to the first guard/official and held up my credential. She took it from me, asked me where in the book I wanted the stamp, told me to wait and returned with it in about 3 minutes. Easy, as said above.
