A friend of mine, who is into astronomy, sent me this picture today:




Of course, I sent him a reply telling him that the legend is that the Milky Way, which the Spaniards call El Camino de Santiago, was formed from the dust of the pilgrims headed to Santiago de Compostela for hundreds of years. That's one theory, anyway.

The daily Astronomy Picture of the Day is a great site to visit daily (see my signature block for the link to the changing daily photo). You can learn a great deal there.

They do describe the way that a photo is manipulated, when it is.
 
Thanks for the explanation. I didn't think they'd use a Photoshopped image on the NASA site but now I know better.
