Too many and too often!
I've just seen a post in a Facebook group by Diego Romero who maintains the very useful Solviturambulando Camino statistics site. Diego has just added a new level of detail to the day-by-day figures by breaking the daily total down by route walked, nationality and starting point. A great tool for the nerdy!

I just took a look at the departure points for yesterday's arrivals at the pilgrim office. The proportion who started in Sarria is remarkable.

Look further and notice that numbers on the Portuguese coastal and central outnumber departures from St. Jean.

Also that the Ingles numbers are growing rapidly
This tells a story of shorter Caminos being more popular.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

It's possible that with today's fast-paced life people can't take four or five weeks off to complete the longer Caminos and so opt for a one week event. The certificate's the same.
I had to wait thirty years for the opportunity to walk the CF as I just couldn't manage a month away.
