Water problems in Villafranca del Bierzo

Camino Frances July 22
I just arrived in Villafranca del Bierzo. A storm two days ago washed a great amount of ash from a nearby fire into the water system and the entire town’s water supply is now unfit for drinking.

Water from the taps is brown and murky. A terrible situation here.

Yes, the Wine of the Bierzo is fantastic. Way better than the mass-produced Riojas.
Exactly. This was going to be my response, too. I stepped off the Camino and did a tour of winery tasting rooms when I passed through Bierzo and it really opened my eyes beyond Rioja and tempranillo grapes. I discovered Mencia and Grenacha and some wonderful white wines, too. I also discoverd that the "ice axe" loops on my pack were perfect for carrying a wine glass for tastings.

Another good excuse for not showering at the end of a long day of walking, when that cold beer is lustfully calling your name.
You sound like a man of rare refinement. One of the beauties of the Camino, and indeed the whole of Spain, is the ready availability of something decent to drink at all times of day. That embraces proper orange juice, a well made coffee and then alcohol in its many forms; wine, beer, sherry, vermouth and a multitude of spirits. All served with grace and generosity.
