Hello,

I am leaving for my first Camino with my daughter in a week and a half. We will be starting in Leon and hopefully make it all the way to Finisterre. Where can we get our credencial's in Leon? (lots of detail would be very much appreciated) Thanks in advance.

nettersweet,

In Leon you can get your Credential at the Albergue del Monasterio de las Benedictinas (Carbajalas), Plaza Santa María del Camino, 7. Here is their web page. http://www.benedictinas.org/albergue.htm.

Buen Camino to both of you,

Margaret Meredith

Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
This is timely because we are going to need new credenciales when we re-start in Leon this year, I think. Thanks!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
3walkingtoSantiago,

If there still is space on your credenciales you could continue to use them on your next camino and pick up new ones later on your way.

Be prepared; walking out of Leon is DREARY. However, it is only 7 km to La Virgen del Camino and an extraordinary 20th century church. The town is named for a famous 15th century figure of the Virgin holding the dead body of Christ. Today the figure is in a splendid church designed in the 1960s by a Dominican monk, Francisco Coello, a follower of the Brutalist style of Le Corbusier. This is basically a glazed concrete box with giant stylized metal sculptures of the Apostles across the west façade. Located directly on the Camino Frances at Av Astorga, 87, in the midst of chaotic suburb the church is a superbly maintained architectural gem as well as a haven of peace. Be sure to enter it; the calm interior is splendidly lit with deep chrome yellow glass. see >> http://virgendelcamino.dominicos.es/webvirgen/

Opposite the church you can choose to either continue on the main CF which parallels the highway or pick up the peaceful alternative camino route going slightly southwest towards Villar de Mazarife. It is always very pleasant to escape the N120 highway noise and suburban sprawl while crossing wide flat plains up to V de M where there are several pilgrim albergues. From V d M the alternative camino continues to Hospital de Órbigo to rejoin the main CF. You can read more about the alternative route in this earlier Forum thread >> el-camino-frances/topic16883.html

Buen Camino to the 3 of you,

Margaret Meredith

If you choose to walk through Leon, the albergue in La Virgen is among the best on the Camino.
