Memorial to Civil War victims April 17, 2018

The monument is located on Alto de Perdon, outside of Pamplona. I think it is fairly new. The standing stones and information boards are located to your left as you turn away from the pilgrims-through-the-ages statues and start down the short set of stairs to continue on. I saw the stones in the fall, but hadn't noticed the information boards. In April I took time to read the boards. On one, there is a list of the 92 names and ages, and their village. It makes a very complicated conflict much more personal, and very moving.
Thanks Marylynn....hoping you are well :) I just bought a Kindle version of The Lore of the Camino de Santiago & look forward to learning. fondly, sandi

The large standing stone in the middle represent the 92 people from Sierra del Perdon who lost their lives in the Spanish Civil War, 1936-39. The smaller standing stones represent the villages, towns, and cities where those people had lived.

There has been a movement to name and recognize victims of the Civil War, and this monument is one way to accomplish it. There were three information boards to explain the monument. Very moving!
I spent some time here, reading and contemplating the information, last May. So sad and very moving.
