    Camino without alcohol?

I think that since it is a (formerly for some) Catholic piligrimage - water and wine have a miraculous proximity. The thread has been entertaining - occasionally (but not always) enlightening. If it is "your" camino why should "you" care what people drink or think? Drunkeness is the scourge...

    Camino Primitivo guide

Liz Brandts guide was great - and I do discarded each page as I went. I also downloaded a guide - Wise Pilgrim Guide. Both were helpful. I just completed the Primitivo - and posted it on the Camino Primitivo forum in terms of my days, reviews, etc. Surprises: Harder than I thought (and I...

    My way...thoughts on the Primitivo

I'd consider starting in Oviedo . The Hospitales route is the most spectacular walking so I would recommend it. I'm a moderate walker so you could make Melide in ten days. Some people bus and skip towns so if you wanted to get the certificate you could do my first 7 and bus to Sarria, I think...

    My way...thoughts on the Primitivo

Camino Primitivo I recently completed the Camino Primitivo. I am an older (65), reasonably fit, regular walker (although on the flatlands of New York City). The weather varied from cool and raining (lots of rain) in the upper 50’s (f) to sunny 90 degrees. A fair amount of road walking at...

    Making the Camino better

Great suggestions. Be kind. Be able to listen without judging. Do those random acts of kindness- I gave and experienced both. Learn some Spanish. Leave the bathroom clean. Be patient with yourself as well as others.

Nervous wreck looking to start mid-August 2017

I just finished my first Camino, having trekked around the world. I did the Primitivo which is shorter, isolated and some say more difficult. I know Spain generally and well so the key is to be flexible and make it "your" camino, a cliche but true. In August you will have great heat (it's hot...

Any housing at monasteries or churches?

I'm on the Primitivo, in Lugo presently. In Tineo- albuerge mater cristi is donativo, self policed, quiet 5euro. The albuergue, not the municipal one and not the private in Berducedo is really nice and the best bar and meal. Rip offs abound as does kindnesses, more of the latter. You cannot...

Total distance from Oviedo to Santiago?

Respectfully...I guess my answer would be a question "does it matter?" When I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and people asked how high it was and how much I walked, I answered "very high - planes flew below me - and I walked a lot". Similarly with weather questions. Historical data matters little -...
