    What’s going on?

I’m on the Camino now and there has been plenty of walk in accommodation available. Our problem areas were Pamplona (San Fermin) and Portomarin was pretty crazy but we did prebook there. Stay off the main towns from Sarria. At Cee now and still plenty on offer.

Bilbao Starts Tour de France 2023

We are coming through Bayonne to coincide with the finish of stage 3 on 3rd July. So excited to witness this great event. Had no trouble getting accommodation there but it‘s not on a major Camino route. We love watching the race from Australia, especially for the stunning scenery and are...

Pamplona during San Fermines, pros and cons?

I’ve walked through before and are doing it again this year. The running is over by the time we get there from Zubiri. There is carnage everywhere but colour and vibrancy Make it an exciting walk through. We have booked two nights at Puente La Reina so once in the city, like last time, we’ll...

    Biting the bullet!

Thank you so much for that information. I tried to loook through Gronze for accommodation options but your knowledge of that path would be more current. I’m awaiting my Brierley to help with the plannint too. Our hope is that the new albergue at Pobra do Brollon will be open, our alternative...

    Biting the bullet!

These are our planned stages. Hubby just had knee replacement on Friday so we’re being very gentle. Ponferrada - Borrenes (20.9), Borrenes - Dom Florez (15.1), Dom Florez - O’Barco (19), O’Barco - A Rua (12), A Rua - Soldon (20), Soldon - Quiroga (6.5. Rest/easy day), Quiroga - A Pobra do...

    Biting the bullet!

Well we have decided that turning off the Frances at Ponferrada (starting at SJPdP) is the way for us to go on our 4th Frances. We don’t think we can do the noise and crowds again after Sarria, so have planned shorter, comfortable stages along the Invierno. We plan to leave Ponferrada on about...

Weirdest/Strangest item someone has taken on the Camino

We always wear sheepskin seat belt strap pads on our pack straps. Takes the pressure off and weigh next to nothing.

LIVE from the Camino Me and my umbrella - envy of the Camino

Hi Rick, I use Velcro strips and fix the brolly handle to my chest straps so I can still use my poles. Hands free. I can take my hat off and it feels so much cooler.

    To Poncho or Not Poncho...

Absolutely agree that the Altus is the best we’ve used after going through a range of ponchos from el cheapo to expensive. They keep you dry, cover your pack and breathe well. My only problem is that because they are generous in length, and I’m short, I look like a raspberry with feet! Lol!

    Australians allowed to travel.

We’re planning summer 2023 just to give covid a chance to settle. The Camino is calling again.
