I have had lovely heartwarming encounters, and normal ignoring, as I get at home walking down the street. I often wondered if it bothered these small town folks, after all they live in a remote place by choice. I always respect their privacy and will smile and greet them but keep my distance.
I am a loner and tend to back away from social events.
What I most love about the Camino is having these encounters with other walkers and have fantastic yet short relationships.
It has helped me to enjoy what human beings have to offer one another rather than backing away.

I walked Lisbon - SdC
And kept seeing the same Pilgrims along the way , at the end we had a lovely group.
Then I met people that did Porto and were very disappointed due to lack of comraderie.
I think the longer the walk the more encounters we have to make friends.
Don't give up, the magic exists !

I was in Deba end of September.
I believe The Municipal has 60 beds. I was number 57. Whew
It seemed the town was full .
If you want a bed in Deba try to be a chicken on that day.
