We tend to keep extra days to a minimum as its a bit of a pig to encourage our bodies to get moving again after they thought its was all over and done!

I’m not certain I would plan the extra day. I’d wait to just think ‘it’s nice here, let’s stay an extra day.’ Of course; if you pre-book everything, that’s not an option.
If that fails there’s much to be said for an extra day in Santiago.
My husband and I walked the Norte in June and July 2023. Two of our favorite smaller towns were Llanes and Luarca. Both are beautiful with plenty of restaurants. Wish I was there right now! Buen Camino!
Yes, Santillana del Mar has kept its Medieval atmosphere and it is a little touristy slick. The real gem here, though, is the Museo Altamira 2 km south of town. Be sure to spend a couple of hours here. Also the harbor at Ribadeo. Buen Camino
For the beach, I’d stop in Tapia de Casariego. Pretty little port and lovely beach.
But there are so many lovely spots to rest. When I walked ,I had a day off every five or six days so had the chance to enjoy the surroundings.
We spent a week in Gijon at the end of our 2019 camino. We had an apartment near the downtown. A few blocks from the city beach walk (wonderful!) and many excellent bars and restaurants and lots of places to walk along the ocean. We loved...
Hi, I did the Norte in 2022, I would definitely have an extra day in Santillana Del Mar, & Sobrado dose monxes......where ever you decide, I wish you a buen camino, I love the Norte, & will do it again
