    Astorga to Santiago in May

Astorga to Santiago does not really have very long stretches without bars/cafes where you can always refill. Maybe after Sarria you might want to finish by 3pm if you are running out of water. If the weather gets too hot for you then just concider starting and hour or two before sunrise to...

    Astorga to Santiago in May

Astorga to Santiago does not really have very long stretches without bars/cafes. You can always refill. Maybe after Sarria you might want to finish by 3pm if you are running out of water. There the village bars close in the afternoon for good. If the weather gets too hot for you then just...

Revised Spring gear packing list (after VdlP)

Yes, in mornings I would wear the rest. As the day goes on, I would add clothes from me to backpack. Temperature rose during the day quite a lot. Especially in the South. Sunscreen was essential to protect my skin once I was hiking in just shorts, t-shirt and the buff neck gaiter that I wore...

Revised Spring gear packing list (after VdlP)

September should be very warm. Daily hiking in a T-shirt should be good. I wore the same shirt every day for hiking. Technical shirts are super easy to handwash and dry fast. In mornings I wore my rain jacket too, but on the revised list I replaced a rain jacket with a poncho. The evening...

Revised Spring gear packing list (after VdlP)

I just finished the VdlP from Seville to Santiago in 28 days. I was travelling light. I did do 10-14km walks at home daily for about 8 months to prepare (multiple smaller walks in Winter time instead of 1 longer one). My original packing list did not fully take into account how the rain and the...

LIVE from the Camino VdlP in (almost) real time

I finished the VdlP yesterday in Santiago. I went through Astorga tongrt there faster. No pilgrim masses on the Frances. Not even starting from Sarria. Via de la Plata all the way into Astorga is extremely flat as a Camino. My app tried to convince me there were mountains on the last 80km, I...

LIVE from the Camino Fuente de Cantos accommodation

they never answer emails. I wrote them in December to get a room for March. Not even a single reply. You can see similar experiences when you check them om Gronze. I just walked past that village and stayed in the next.

LIVE from the Camino Conditions on Via de la Plata

After Merida trail quality is good. Definetely still water on trail for another few days but nothing crazy anymore. Right after the monastery there was supposed to be some complications, but I avoided that part. Im about to reach Careces.

LIVE from the Camino Conditions on Via de la Plata

Walk out of Merida towards Aljucen was already pretty good. No big deal. Probably because it was hilly. From Torremejia to Merida it was a complete s**tshow. Its very flat there. I doubt there were any pilgrims that did not choose the car road near the trail instead.

LIVE from the Camino VdlP in (almost) real time

From other pilgrims I have gotten information that roughly 20 pilgrims started both Friday and Saturday. It seems like the holy week is not as insane for finding accomondation as I was told. All pilgrims in the albergue I am at finish at either Merida or Salamanca.

    Norte 2023 in pictures (8min)

Best part in my opinion was Asturias region starting from Muros de Nalon. From there the Norte has a lot of natural terrain walking. Everything between Bilbao to Aviles was asphalt pretty much, but it makes sense if weather is not so good. Was not a huge fan of the asphalt. Therefore I...

    Norte 2023 in pictures (8min)

I am also building up a playlist of Youtube shorts of Norte 2023. I think I have them all done quite fast. Just throwing together raw video footage of under 1 min for each day of the Norte. This should give an especially authentic secondhand experience:

    Norte 2023 in pictures (8min)

Ever since you rech Bilbao its pretty much all asphalt. I used Buen Camino app to know what the road surface for certain stretches are. The shortest routes on Norte (after Bilbao) are usually highway style roadwalks. The deeper you get into Asturias region, the more you get oceanside natural...
