I've never heard of "copa" in relation to beer. "Copa" would be used if you're ordering wine: una copa de vino blanco / tinto (a glass of white/red wine).
For beer, people generally order "caña" (a regular glass). And if you want a big mug, then...
I'm Galician and I never heard about this until recently. As a child, I very much looked forward to December 28 and spent the previous weeks planning all sorts of pranks 😂
But only for us foreigners. Today is not special for the locals, they would not "get it", afaik for them it is a day in December. The 28th I think. 🤓☺️
After reading this I have to say that I was a bit offended at being addressed as señora and usted this past year. I'm not over 70 (though approaching it faster than I'd like), nor do I look old or infirm (I hope). 😄
To be honest, if it's obvious your Spanish is very limited but you're still making the effort, nobody is going to get offended because you're using tú or usted.
Some of those people you mention will probably address you as "usted", because...
