    Camino Primitivo

I walked the primitivo in On Cloudventures, in 2019. Very comfortable, and these things were very waterproof. I mean slogging through wet sloppy mud in the rain and my feet stayed dry. That was pretty good. I've got a new pair for walking this summer.

On the Camino: One Day at a Time, one Photo at a Time 10.0

On this day in 2019...this is from the dormitory in Monasterio de Santa Maria de Valdedios. I love this picture because it screams "haunted orphanage", but in fact, this was a great place to stay. It's in an amazing old monastery that once house hundreds of monks, but is now held together by a...

Irun to Santiago de Compostela in 30 days?

I walked from Bilbao to Santiago in 30 days a few years ago, but in June I'm starting my Norte in Irun so as to enjoy walking the first part of the Norte that I skipped in 2019. I'll be skipping from Bilbao to Oviedo and starting the Primitivo there this time. I mention this because when people...

    Donativos: is there a list?

I found another thread here with a ton of information, I guess I am not the first person to try and compile a list! Check it: https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/donativos-on-the-norte-primitivo.65856/

Has del Norte been crowded lately (April 2023)?

I'll be making this walk in June. Can you say more about the Monastery Donativo? Location, contact info, impressions, etc.?

    Donativos: is there a list?

Thank-you for the replies, it's interesting to see how informal the system of albergues is. I didn't worry about this on my Camino in 2019, I never even made a reservation. My thought here is that I would like to explore more of the Donativos, so I'll be on the lookout for more information. If I...

    Donativos: is there a list?

To clarify, there's municipal albergues, which have some kind of govt. subsidy. I imagine there should be a list of all of those, but I haven't found one. Donativos are separate from municipal albergues, and I imagine there is a more informal network where they are aware of eachother. I recall...

    Donativos: is there a list?

I'm planning my second Camino for this summer. On my first Camino in 2019 I had the pleasure of staying in some Donativos, privately run albergues where things were a little different than the public albergues. I'd like to plan out some of my trip, and I'm pretty flexible about where I go. I am...

Walking the Way, May 22 Bilbao

My credencial arrived from "American Pilgrims on the Camino" in plenty of time for my trip. What a great organization that just does that at no cost.

Walking the Way, May 22 Bilbao

Howdy Pilgrims, I'm Neil, I'll be hiking the Camino starting May 22 in Bilbao. My plan is to hike the Norte route until Villaviciosa, where I'll swing South to Oviedo to walk the Primitivo route. After Santiago de Compostela, I plan to continue on to Fisterra. Afterwards, I have family in...
