FICS Forum: Why Change the 100 km. rule to 300 km.?

Hey there! I'm on the CP now and started on the 23rd! The first four days are a lot of sidewalk and road walking so be careful. It does get much better though! Be careful in Santarém to not take a LEFT out of town. It it marked for both Santiago (as an alternate route) and Fatima. I walked about...

    Camping on the Portugues

I'll be frank and walk without you or your approval which are both unneeded. Buen Camino.

    Camping on the Portugues

Well if you can't afford lodging you gotta sleep somewhere right? I'd rather be nestled in to a small patch of trees than exposed on a park bench. Anybody care to donate to my lodging "needs" or can we all just have our own camino? I'm sure everyone of you are saints though so disregard my...

    Camping on the Portugues

I will be walking the CP beginning in late March and camping. Wild camping may not be "legal" in Portugal, however, a little bit of recon and flexibility will allow you to camp where people won't disturb you and where you won't draw attention to yourself. Being from Alaska, camping is about...

    Portuguese in January

I walked the Camino Frances last September and am looking to head back and do a couple routes over a few month from January into spring. Has anyone done the Portuguese in January?

    What did you lose...??

I lost my iPhone while removing my fleece the following morning after Leon. My mom and I were takling about phone updates which led me to discover i had no phone. I was very irritated and decided to backtrack about 3 km. I asked everyone along the way and nobody had seen it. I ran into a...

pretty sure i am leaving the camino after tomorrow

The camino, from what I learned, I just returned, is an experience. Maybe it's not your vacation but it isn't a vacation. It's a full time job and its life. You wake up, pack, go, eat, unpack, sleep. If you wanted a vacation I would say Hawaii would be good for you. My advice is you should have...

    Full time camper

YOU THE MAN!!! The Internet is a blessing and a curse at the same time. Yes people, I appreciate your opinions but do not give me advice that you have heard from an uncredited source. I would much rather people with personal experiences share their input. If i wanted to get wasted and party...

    Full time camper

Thanks. Great advice. If I had to pinpoint my #1 pet peave it is not being able to sleep when I am tired... I hate snoring!! This is one reason i choose to camp. I know I will meet many people during the days and I can spend lunches with them. I have no official plan. If i'm with a great...

    Full time camper

Okay, I've read through some of the forums on sleeping bag vs. liner. Everyone seems to be referring to using one or the other in a hostel of some kind. I'm an Alaskan, the outdoors is in my blood. I'm sure at some point along the way i will stay in some hostels, especially if the weather...

Buen Camino!!! Coming from Alaska in September.

By fruit do you mean naturally growing fruit along the Camino? I would love to pick my own :D

    English friendly?

I've never before been to Europe, but i hear Americans do not get much respect. Is this a true statement along the Camino? Am i better off saying I'm from Alaska than I am America? Afterall, Alaska is certainly a little bit different than the continental US.

    Turning around on the Camino

So it's probably safe to say that if your pilgrimage has only began to maybe hop a train or bus to another starting point and venture from there? I was feeling like not many people would be turned around.

    Turning around on the Camino

Has anyone ever arrived at their destination, only to realize that the experience has only began? How many people turn around and walk in the opposite direction?
