Always lots of debate about this.
We wear Merino shirts and very light gortex rain jacket & pants.
It can pour with rain all day and we stay dry….bone dry.
I suspect a lot depends on the quality of the gear.
But maybe also, the amount you sweat...
If still in Santiago I would recommend popping in to have a wander around. I think that the recent renovation was just wonderful, restoring the flow of the cathedral back to its origins and bringing in very sympathetic modern features...

Oh that makes sense but when you arrive do you just walk in and pick a room? Or does the person working there pick your room? Lol my friend is a bit nervous that I’ll be in one room and she gets escorted to another one :)
Because my friend wants to walk ahead of me she will get to A Laxe first can she just pick a room or does the hospital just take you to where they want you to go if there are 2 dorms? :)
