    Bayonne Accomodation

I'm currently in Bayonne, leaving tomorrow. I'm staying at the Okku Hotel which I adore. What an experience. It's an easy 20 min walk from the station. Includes breakfast, all day snacks, wine, horsd'oeuvres. Sauna, terrace, etc. Really cool and comfy rooms.

What technology are YOU using on the Camino?

My IPhone 6 and mini IPad 4 make me happy! They're light enough and I can read the screens!

    daily distances

It does sound like a lot, but it depends on how you have been training. If you've done similar distances with your pack in advance of your Camino, it shouldn't be as big an issue as if you haven't worked up to this level beforehand,

    Doubts after Day 1

Best advice I ever got about waliking downhill is to take it HEEL first, not toe first. Saved my knees, legs, psyche, etc.! Best of luck to you on your Camino.

    Very scared of terrorism

When a big journey lies ahead, it's understandable to have these fears pop up and try to take hold. It's part of our lives. Think about all the things you COULD worry about if you wanted to: planes, trains, cars, lightening, falling trees, and the list goes on. Terrorism is certainly in the news...

Need basic fitness advice for the unfit and (relatively) old newbie

My suggestion, since you have a whole year,is to set aside concerns about your packs, boots, and even hills. Get to the gym. Hire a trainer for insights into best strategies and machines, and how to use them properly. Sign up for some classes, perhaps yoga? Definitely start swimming. It's the...

Gym leggings instead of "hiking pants"

Check out pants by LUCY.they're amazing, very light yet warm enough, pockets, ties at the ankles so you can wear them shorter, too.
