Thank you sooo much!! I am so happy someone took the time to do the experience up right. At first I had wished he had gone into the cathedral at the end & spoke of his reaction there with the botafumeiro swinging & the camaraderie felt. But maybe he didn’t get to experience that or it was too...
Very nice! Thanks for the notice! Can’t wait to see more. I am very interested in Norte. From what I can tell according to guidebook, overnight stays may be a room in a person’s home, not necessarily albergue choices & possibly more miles in between, & trail winds around inlets. After looking...
Once again a beautiful journey! I really like your narration, because that’s what is really happening. I think my favorite leg of this Camino is once you entered Spain & namely the very end to Fisterre. I really can’t take so much hard unforgiving surface. This tells me I made the right decision...
That was a thoughtful & thorough covering that I really appreciate! My older son & I were there end of April through May 2017, having previously done it in 2014 same time of year. Still today I relive it nearly daily, because something jogs my memory about a fellow hiker or a certain town...
Half size larger. A whole size gives too much wiggle room & not enough stability when you need it on uphills & downhills. I’m normally an 8-1/2, so I use a 9.
Wow, wow, WOW! That is so amazing to experience the horses! I wondered why there was literally no wildlife on the Frances both times. Did hear a cow bell. Now I know. Do the Primitivo. It’s their refuge from the flocks of people. Thank you for the wonderful picture in my head!
Nice, good one! Similar idea to Wright socks. My feet get hot, too, especially between toes, so I also use Ininji 5-finger socks. Both Wright & Ininji work for me. And if it is cold & wet & I am wearing hiking sandals, Smart Wool socks over one of those keeps my feet dry. In a downpour, I slip...
Responding to PeteD. As a child, I loved splashing in puddles in the rain. As a teen & adult, I tried to avoid puddles. When I had children, I loved watching my own boys splash in puddles. On the Camino, I became a child again & thoroughly enjoyed the rain & splashed through the puddles, slid in...
Agreed about doing it my way. The first time doing the Frances I encountered a tour group that had stopped for a picnic lunch & then were going to walk a distance before reboarding their bus. They were French. I knew a few words & gave a greeting. Immediately, I had people flock around me...
As for pollen in the Spring on Frances Camino. There is a section before Astorga, that has a row of Cottonwood trees alongside the trail. The blooms cover the trail like a blanket of snow & with all the hiking boots trampling through, they get pulverized & stirred up into dust. I didn’t know any...
In Texas, we call them mosquito hawks. They contribute to the ecosystem because the larvae (leatherjackets) feed on decaying organic material and help in the decomposition process. Birds eat the mature ones. Two-way serving the system.
Only thing that works for me, & I haven’t had to do this on the Camino, but on my road, is to squirt a big dose of water from my water bottle in the dog’s face. It shocks them enough to lose their focus. Never had one come back after me. But don’t know about Spain dogs. Vicious is vicious.
