  • I live in Seattle (home of REI) my local suburban REI store had lots of very knowledgeable, and approachable, and helpful employees. The shoe salespeople had all heard of the Camino de Santiago ( a couple had already walked it) and they recommended I use the Merrel Moab trail runners. I used a pair in 2018 (Sept.- Oct) and my 68 year old feet loved them.

thats cool. not from our REIs. My wife and I were 47 years old when we did our last Camino in 2017. I would rather be safe than sorry so we always use midcut boots. Some folks I walked with regretted they used trail running shoes while using low-cut because they dont last long.

The low cut is not good with rain as it is soaked easily (might be very uncomfortable to walk w/ water in your shoes, might trigger blisters). The mid-cut hiking boots is water-proof enough that our feet remained dry most if not all the time.

A young pilgrim got her trail running shoes worn out on the way from Cruz del ferro. In my Camino primers with my friends who are interested in the Camino I always encourage them to use mid-cut boots because of my experience and so far it worked well with them. But who knows in your case?
