The memorial to the victims is probably 1/2km still climbing up the hill before you would get to the rest area (which is at the top of the hill). I am sure there's no connection... But what a shame! The guy running the stand lifted my spirits up...

That's Hollywood. Many of us are totally not into contrived camino families. It's both not true and not the situation on the ground. If you want quiet, you can find it. But as others have said, quieter caminos might be more your cup of tea.
