    Trekking Umbrella - Availability

I know of several famous American thru-hikers who have used umbrellas going back through the decades. Ray & Jenny Jardine, Pete Jenkins, and Grandma Gatewood.

    Trekking Umbrella - Availability

My wife and I walked the Camino Frances in 2022 and used the Euroshirm, Swing,Liteflex (three names!) extensively. We love them. On Amazon $50-$60. 6 ounces. Silver but they come in other colors. Beautifully simple design. They slid into the top of our packs easily and to deploy could be pulled...

    Santiago favorites accommodations

My wife and I liked Hostal Suzo on Rua del Villar. A bustling street with colonnades to keep you out of the rain. Down the street from the cathedral. Lots of shops and restaurants. Clean and friendly small hotel with an attached restaurant bar on the first floor. Stayed three days.

Weather/equipment needs vs weight in late June

Walked Camino Frances 2022 late August to October, so we had the heat of the Meseta and the rainy cold of Galicia in the fall. Like the U.S. football season. My one and only warmth garment was an Eddie Bauer 14 oz. down jacket without a hood. It packs into its own pocket. No other jacket or...

Is that OK to use Google maps for Camino Frances?

We just walked the Frances. We used Wise Pilgrim. Gronze, Mapy, and Apple Maps. Each had it’s forte. Mapy is scary accurate. So accurate it shows fonts and picnic tables ahead. Gronze shows distance between towns and mileage and lodging in each town. Wise Pilgrim shows Camino and lodgings...

New and Old trail into Portomarin

Later yesterday met a peregrino who came down the “new and improved “ trail also yesterday. They received broken-bone injuries and went to the hospital, ending their Camino. That’s what prompted me to post above. Not that I’m against dangerous routes, however. The vast majority go for the...

New and Old trail into Portomarin

Hiked to Portomarin today in a pouring rain. After studying the three routes on my Mapy.cz app and viewing the huge sign where the trails diverge, and reading the forum shares, we decided on the road on the left. (Left when facing the river before you cross it). It’s plainly visible on the big...

Will Ivar hold a letter from US?

Can Ivar hold a letter for me? This would be an important banking letter coming from the US and I was hoping I could pick it up when I get to Santiago. In Pamplona now. Thanks.

Anyone walked the Valcarlos this summer?

Walked St Jean to Val Carlos Aug 22 in a lite rain. Had a good meal at the shopping center. Saw one other peregrino all day. Easy small road hiking with a few steep parts. Considered the dire warnings about the route to Roncevalles and took a cab up there and got 2 beds in the basement!
