I had a similar incident on the WestHighlandWay. A herd of cows in a narrow lane with stone walls on each side. They were placid enough but had they decided to move when I was walking past them I would have had nowhere to go. I climbed down to the nearby railway line and walked along there...
...it's too much ugly roadwalking through cities and along highways and to be avoided.
So if you expect something like the pct, westHighlandway, or alpine mountain hiking, you might be disappointed. Even on the Norte or the via de la Plata.
The Caminos usually choose the shorter, easier...
...walking and enjoyed it. The Camino spirit has definitely got into our hearts and we have gone on to walk the Aussie Camino and the WestHighlandWay in 2015, the Caminho Portuguese from Lisbon in 2016, the Camino del Norte in 2018, four walks in the UK in 2019, COVID put paid to 2020! In 2022...
I second this, my husband has a Morton’s neuroma and the lone peaks have been his best friend. He doesn’t have particularly wide feet either. He also went up a half size. We had tried 4 other brands prior and he suffered. Those sneakers are the only ones he will walk in.
Thanks Natcats, great you found your magic combo. After reading about them here on the forum, I also ordered lone peaks, but they are too soft/floppy for me.
Also tried the speedgoats in wide, and misc Salomons. Thinking now Ultra raptors in wide might be the go, or Topo. But before ordering...
...my Keens and suffered so much, honestly thought my long-distance walking days were over. But then with the Lone Peaks, I walked the WestHighlandWay last year with NOT A SINGLE BIT of problem. Nothing. That particular model and brand is very popular with the long distance thru...
Walked the Camino two years ago and last year walked the WestHighlandWay. Both times I used my USA T-mobile senior account which includes an international plan at no extra cost. Keeping your USA phone number is important if your bank requires third party confirmation.
Pretty sure it's still there 👍🏼 whiskey is the best way to give you energy and keep you warm...... and it certainly improves your singing voice to keep the pace 🤣
Nice! Reminds me of when I was descending from Conic Hill down to Balmaha on my first day on the WestHighlandWay in spring 1997 ... Does the Rob Roy Bar in Rowardennan still exist? I remember them wanting to fill whiskey into my water bottles 🤣
I'm pretty sure (like 100%) that Britain is not now nor never has been part of the Schengen zone, happy to stand corrected but a quick interweb search will tell you it's not. Just last year I exhausted my 90 day allowance and headed to Scotland to walk the WestHighlandWay without any drama.
I know the WestHighlandWay, East HighlandWay, Rob Roy Way, Cape Wrath Trail etc. But I don't know the North HighlandWay? Is it a new walking trail in Scotland?
...coast and who was the abbey guide on Iona for a summer in a previous century it all rings very true indeed! :)
Post in thread 'West HighlandWay compared to Camino Frances/Portuguese'...

...by a vertigo-inspiring wire-rope bridge. Return by the same route, or continue back to Fort William in five hours along the WestHighlandWay.
Getting there
There are flights with Aer Lingus and Ryanair from Dublin to Glasgow and Edinburgh, while Ryanair offers flights from Shannon, Belfast...
...walking in Scotland and northern England in which to practice - Settle to Carlisle, St Cuthbert's Way, Northumberland Coastal Path, Fife Coastal Path, WestHighlandWay, Great Glen Way, Moray Coastal Path, Hadrian's Wall. I've done them all and they are great for a practice run. Go to it man!
...accommodation.
Walking and the outdoors seems to be pretty popular in the UK at the moment , with things such as The 3 Peaks, The WestHighlandWay etc and various "must do" locations seeing a lot of visitors and getting a fair amount of media coverage. Hypothetically I wonder if some of our...
I walked St Olav's Way Oslo to Trondheim as a solo female in 2016. Being 7 years ago now (yikes 😳) & not knowing the effects of Covid, I'll just give generalised comments.
Athough a through trail, the 'stages' were designed more as day walks by each commune along the way. This means they tended...
