What would you change about the CF - if you could?

I don’t think I would change anything! It’s a hugely contrasting journey and experience and all the better for it!

Has the Camino lost its way?

    Well done! Good to hear!

Advice… please… 🙏🏻 (About starting time each day)

Agreed though if you book a private hostel you won’t have a curfew. If I arrive at 8pm I like go out stay up for a few hours - at least midnight to unwind.

Advice… please… 🙏🏻 (About starting time each day)

Good length break at about 10am, nice long lunch and a bit of bar hopping in afternoon is my perfect day with arrival at 7 to 8pm. If it’s a major city or town like to get there by 6pm to have a night out!

Advice… please… 🙏🏻 (About starting time each day)

I am an early riser and a late finisher and walking in the early evening (although initially a necessity as I am such a slow walker) is to me the best part of Camino. I always booked a bed via booking . com though (other channels are avaiable) as that was a concern for me!

6 Month Training & Weight Loss Plan for an Overweight/Plus Size Pilgrim

Ah thank you! Central Park loop sound a great option. I like a south to north Manhattan walk but it’s hard surface and, well, not quite the same vibe as Camino walking!!! Good luck!

What are most people finding as the daily expense of a 2-3 month Camino walk?

Genuine question! Do many poor people walk a Camino. Or is just a myth! I genuinely don’t know. It’s seems a largely middle class thing. I was very very poor as a child ( and it stays with me everyday) and the thought of walking or trekking was for ‘other folks’ bit like skiing and university...

Has the Camino lost its way?

I am just a ‘bucket list’ hiker really and have no problem with that! I had never really heard of the word ‘pilgrim’ before I came across this forum. Maybe vaguely! It gives off ancient images! I certainly wouldn’t want to be seen as one.. it sounds so unglamorous! Not for the Tinder profile...

6 Month Training & Weight Loss Plan for an Overweight/Plus Size Pilgrim

I am not from USA so forgive me if geography is out, but Albany can’t be too far from the Catskill Mountains which must have some good treks? https://www.lonelyplanet.com/articles/best-hikes-in-catskills

    Guides in Nepal

Thank you! Yes it a tough one. I don’t really want to have a guide though walking alone at 4-5k metres carries risk! Whilst I understand the need to support local guides, to me mandating a guide will put loads of people off. There will always folks that want a guide of course but the archetypal...

    Scam & booking.com

Good example. As someone who has written travel communications copy for a living if you look at the appalling grammar, wording, etc it shouts scam all over it. Any major travel organisation has professional copywriters to craft its messages so if it is written badly take a step back! Due to my...

    OK guys, what underwear?

With the exception of walking boots I have never bought anything specifically to walk a Camino. Everyday shorts, t- shirt, bucket hat, socks, underwear.

    OK guys, what underwear?

I think you can just wear your normal underwear? It’s a low intensity walk.

Carry on luggage with Vueling…how strict are they on dimensions?

Basically many of the older airlines introduced ‘hand baggage only’ fares a few a years back. It was a competitive move effectively to offer modular pricing in the same way as the newer airlines They have been hugely successful from a revenue standpoint but the issue is of course overhead bin...

LIVE from the Camino Dog attack

Glad Glad you were unscathed. Sounds a bit scary. I think no-one wants to harm dogs even the aggressives one, but just hoping that a few kind words and ‘some love’ is just not enough for me. I don’t have that skill set. We have seen the death toll figures! I have had two weeks of no aggressive...

    Guides in Nepal

Thanks again to everyone for some great stories and especially for the very specific answer to my question (which was the answer I was hoping for!). A few bits and pieces. I know there was a joke about mandating a guide on the Camino. Hopefully it will never come to that and I am sure it...

    Guides in Nepal

Reminds me of a trek >4000mts where a youngish chap, was a bit too confident and moaning that we were all too slow so he got a move on. A few hours later he was coming down on a stretcher! Thankfully he was fine with the the damage being to his ego. I arrived in La Paz from Europe, probably...

    Guides in Nepal

I remember landing in La Paz once, the highest major city on world, and a fair few arriving passengers were in a bad way just walking out the terminal! One girl was being sick!! I remember running up just a few steps there in a market just to catch a lift and I had to really catch my breath!
