What I lost on the Camino

Forgot my cap in the dining room in albergue orion in castrojeritz. Irritated me to no end. 3 fast drying towels (3 different places on the same camino). A hiking pole. A hoodie. And the worst: my pilgrimpas in villafranca de bierzo. Luckily I had a spare to start over with. But I've found so...

Poll Why did you have to abandon your Camino? Anonymous

Those shin-splints nearly did me in as well. Twice on the same camino. First one (right leg) around najera and it was close to having me give up - The second one (left leg) 10 km from santiago - and ruined my days in santiago.

LIVE on the CF warning - Belorado/Tostanos/Villafranca highway work

I've often wondered how the landscape looks like from up there.

LIVE from the Camino Between Sarria and Portomarin

September-october? I just did that - it was a river of tour busses from around Sarria. I had one good experience from that though. I was resting on a bench when one of the tourbusses stopped close by. The guide actually told the "pilgrims/tourists" to be mindful of the pilgrims that was walking...

    Snow at Roncesvalles

As others have said - it varies. In a year I never forget, (I walked twice that year) 7.April 2016 I started in Sjpdp. The day before it was sunny and fairly warm, but the next morning it was cold, wet and the napoleon was closed. Walked in cold rain, which changed into warm & sunny and then...

Is the Camino too crowded now?

This is one of those very old discussions. When I walked my first in 2013 there were also discussions about too many pilgrims. This year I walked mid sep to mid oct like I did in 2016, and there were definitely fewer people this year - or maybe I just hit in between the waves. I had many days...

    Hello raincoat, my old friend

Very fitting for the weather in Galicia the last few weeks. The first time I've ever had to stop to empty my boots of water.

    Boots?

You will be given plenty of recommendations in here. However - are you sure boots are the right choice for that time of year? Personally I would go for Mammut boots but again it's a personal preference. For june I would go for sandals or light trailrunners.

    Flooding in Santiago

I have been in Finisterra for 3 weeks now - leaving monday, and after beautiful warm weather it has the last 3-4 days turned into unpreditable and very wet. Going down yesterday from the lighthouse there were a group if us that was "attacked" by a fierce rain, that turned the road and hiking...

Where to buy a cheap duffle bag in Santiago?

There's several good stores in santiago that sell suitcases and duffelbags and one fairly close to the "pilgrim area". I looked on google once I needed a suitcase.

    Feedback on packing list please

Be careful not to overthink it. Fx: your first aid and toiletries - mine was toothbrush and toothpaste - that's all. No soap, cream etc. I cut off my hair so that's easy. Water bottle - why not just buy soda bottles and reuse them.

    Sticks and Boots

Hiking poles or not. Good question. However there's often a bigger question - how to use them. I've seen so many where I wonder why they bought them. So many are not using them correctly - especially on flat surfaces. There are videos on youtube showing how - and sporting goods stores can also...

    Toilet paper, litter and graffiti

Getting close to fonzebadon going up you pass a shelter - so I sat for a while resting before the next part. Before leaving I needed to relieve myself so I stepped behind the shelter and I was astonished. It was probably the biggest pile of tp I have ever seen. I was so ashamed I held it in...

Why did you do the camino? Help me out!

I have for many years been interested in existential, philosophical, mythological and religious ideas that have guided people in their lives. I've been reading and travelling a lot. Learning about the camino came fairly late in my life, I was 41. Travelling to Israel and places like that has...

    Graffiti - CYMRU AM BYTH

What if I told you that Pollock used several different techniques to achieve or/and avoid certain effects in his paintings, especially concerning how fluids move. Would it surprise you that amongst movie buffs the 70's is considered the best decade in movies. There's a reason for that. "In the...

    Graffiti - CYMRU AM BYTH

Well - we will just have to agree to disagree. Yes, graffiti have existed for many years - many other silly ideas have. I mentioned 70's & 80's because that was where those "activities" suddenly became a trend. Art forms?? Oh my god - again we'll just have to agree to disagree.

    Depth on the Camino?

Not just "no-one cares" but it seems like a lot of things are suspended while being on the camino. Like age, gender, ethnicity, occupation etc etc - and that's absolutely beautiful. I guess that's why we also have those unofficial rules about not mentioning religion and especially politics. To...
