Getting lost on the Francés is extremely unlikely, practically impossible even without a GPS.

Re: Galego and Spanish on the Camino Frances

Galego is not a mixture of Castilian and Portuguese any more than Catalan is a mixture of Castilian and French. It could even be argued that Castilian and Portuguese are derivatives of Galego. But that won’t win you any friends.

    Pork in Spain

this is a pig farm. It is the kind of place most pork and ham in Spain comes from. I saw dozens of these places today and there must be thousands all over Spain. Walking about 5000km of Camino I must have a few hundred but only 3 or 4 times have I seen free range pigs. I am not a vegetarian, but...

    Re: Current Lunch Prices

And if you plan to visit the USA, be sure to spend some time in Mexico and Canada first to accustom yourself to their funny North American ways.

    Re: Current Lunch Prices

If it is a menú, bottled water is a choice of drink so not charged extra. Otherwise you can ask for ‘agua de grifa’ - tap water. What intrigues me is that red wine is included, but if you have white wine with a menú, they charge for it.

    Re: Current Lunch Prices

You could ask. I am 100% sure they’ll say yes. I wouldn’t try it on with the wine though.

    Re: Current Lunch Prices

There is a lot wrong with this post, not least the assumption that what is correct etiquette in one European country must also be correct in another.

standard of living/quality of life in Spain

And while we are on the subject, pointing out or claiming that a country does not have very good public transport or health system hardly constitutes an attack.

A New Way To Walk The Camino

Or, you could do it on a Segway, or in a Sinclair C5, or on a pogo stick.

    The Camino will provide?

I was going to quote that same statement. Pity he didn’t follow his own advice. As William Faulkner (a much nicer if more troubled man) said “History is never dead. It’s not even finished”.

Do I need separate pilgrim passports for my Caminos?

No. One will do, especially as you are walking continuously to Santiago. A lot of pilgrims, myself included walk via several linked routes.

3 languages on VdlP stone pillars

Kemal Ataturk abolished the use of Arabic script for Turkish. A common sense reform for a language heavily dependent on vowels.

To those who brought a tent: How do I keep the total weight down?

I would really invest in a lighter backpack, even standard models weigh under 2 kgs so that is a big gain straight away. As for total weight, 15kgs is doable - last year we walked a 1000 km through trail in Western Australia averaging 19 kms a day. My pack weighed 14 to 16 kgs, and I am not a...

3 languages on VdlP stone pillars

Ladino is normally written in Roman script. Until recently there was a Ladino newspaper published in Istanbul using the Roman alphabet.

Or a hole in the water into which one pours money.

    The Shell Toucher hat

At least borderline racist but waspishly hilarious as ever, the great Noel Coward: “When the White Man rides every native hides in glee, because the simple creatures hope he will impale his solar topee on a tree”. Mad Dogs and Englishmen.

Has the dog “policy” on the Camino changed?

Each albergue has its own policy. Most of them say no because a dog, or any non human animal, in a dormitory is clearly unacceptable. Some places may allow a dog to sleep in the yard or garden. The only exception is certified service dogs: they must be admitted by law.

    The Camino will provide?

This getting slightly off beam. I am not even sure if the quote is attributed correctly. Can we focus on the points being made in the original post?
