    Re: Current Lunch Prices

Lunch time is generally later in the afternoon. They may not start serving until 1 or 2 p.m. and finish up by 3 or 4 p.m.

    Francès, busiest period

June, July are less busy on the CF than May. August is busy especially from Sarria as Spanish people take their summer vacations. September is very busy. As you get into October, November, etc. the crowds will thin. I walked in December and January early this year and Sarria to Santiago was...

If there are too many pilgrims, what is a pilgrim to do?

Its a little late for people who already have their plans set in stone or who are already on the ground. My husband and I were talking about it this morning walking to my work. Most new pilgrims often don't realize that May and September are the busiest times to walk. They walk when they can...

All trains are full on Renfe (around May 3-7, 2024)

Look into booking a flight, too. Sometimes that is less expensive than train or bus depending on when you fly.

    Getting to SJPDP

I have not seen them measure bags on the bus (or train). They just go under the bus. They dont give you a baggage claim ticket, you just put it under the bus yourself and get it out when you arrive. Do you have time to send from Madrid or Pamplona or have it picked up at your hotel DHL for...

Najera albergue reopens after renovation work

I've seen some photos and the updates to kitchen and bathrooms look really great! FICS is doing good things there. I believe volunteer hospitaleras from Canada this half of the month!

How much cash to take for cash-only Camino purchases

Chain supermarkets will take cards as will most private albergues, hotels and restaurants. We stay at albergues that don't take electronic payment much of the time, so I always have cash with me. Some small stores and bars may require minimum amount for purchase with a card. Cash also helps me...

Getting topical steroids in Spain? (prescription strength)

They don't sell otc. In Spain. I always bring a tube of Cortisone 10 with me. Do you have travel insurance? If so call the number a d they can probably refer you to someone in Pamplona to see. If not, ask your hospitalera if they can guide you or go to a pharmacy and they may be able to help you.

LIVE from the Camino Account of a very challenging day SJPdP to Roncesvalles (crazy weather)

@garlicbread , Be sure to check the "give away" box at your next albergue for an extra layer of clothes if you don't have enough to keep you warm right now. New pilgrims usually start discarding things away after the first day or so when they find their packs are too heavy. You may find...

CPAP users: how do you bring your machine with you?

We use an HME (heat moisture exchange) filter which does help some. You can order then online. It means we have to carry enough for our entire time in Spain usually as each one lasts 7 days. We live at high altitude in a very dry climate in the the US so maybe our nasal passages are more used to...

    Getting from Orisson to Roncesvalles

The alternate is still pretty steep going down.

    Dexcom

Do you have travel insurance? If so you may be able to call and see if they can help you locate a provider and/or supplies. I think you do have to have a prescription from a Spanish doctor, but they may be able to identify who you could see.

Buying shoes on a Sunday. Are sports stores open?

Hokas are also not listed among the brands at the DirectionCompostelle/Boutique du Pelerin shop in St. Jean either.

Buying shoes on a Sunday. Are sports stores open?

If you know your size, maybe contact Caminoteca in Pamplona in advance to make sure they have your size/shoe on hand. They are a small store and it does not look like they carry Hokas. I don't think there will be many other sports stores open on a Sunday in Pamplona or at least a quick look on...

    Getting from Orisson to Roncesvalles

Perhaps start in Roncesvalles or if you start in SJPDP go the Valcarlos route. It is a steep downhill from the top of the Napoleon route. There is no actual "service" to get you down from the top once you walk up there.

    Casa Ivar has abandoned me?

I remember @ivar discussing it a while back in one of his videos.

    Weight limit on transported bags

Correos and Jacotrans websites says 15 kg.

    Chilly camino

Perhaps the rainy, cool weather will discourage fair weather pilgrims and clear the way a little?
