Sterkte Johan!
Still debating on whether to do this route as well from end April to end May myself. All dependent on work so will likely be a last minute decision if it happens (clenching both thumbs and thinking, yes please!).
Hi Coo,
Maybe reconsider the locally stocked options? There is some very budget friendly yet quality options (ranging from R1k - R3k) available at Cape Union Mart/Outdoor Warehouse which ought to come in cheaper than the Aus option, especially considering the "extra" cost getting it from Aus to...
Did this in the latter half of May 2016. Had no problems finding accommodation. Most days was nice sunny weather, with the occasional drizzle. Some strong winds on the Hospitales section (beautiful views!), but nothing unmanageable. No snow, only had that on the San Salvador and Madrid earlier...
1 Month 4 days to go before I fly out. Landing the 27th, starting out the 28th of April. I most likely won't be seeing any of the other April walkers, thus Buen Camino to all!
So my leave has been approved for next year. Currently thinking of doing the Madrid, followed by either the Salvador & Primitivo or just continuing along the Frances. Most likely though I'll only make that decision once I've reached Leon.
Now the fun starts by planning and day dreaming about...
Instead of spending the night in Paris (unless you really want to ;) ), consider taking the night train to Bayonne. I did this last year. Departs around 22:00 from the Austerlitz station and arrives the following morning in Bayonne around 08:30. Thus you still have the afternoon to view some...
I used trail running tights from First Ascent, and nothing else... For my entire Camino I did not once experience any chafing or discomfort of any kind. Very easy to clean and quick to dry as well. The fabric itself is elastane based and possess moisture management properties. In my opinion...
I washed clothes by hand, be it in a wash basin or the showers every day (only took along 2 of everything). Clothes pegs comes in very handy for when drying clothes whilst walking! The attached picture shows what I'd do on those rainy days if something was still damp by lights-out.
In all the bigger towns there are ATM's, though very few villages have them. Cash per day varies depending on yourself. €30 per day is more than sufficient in my view. Just decide how much you plan to spend per day and then work out how many days there is between each of the big towns to...
Hi Simeon,
I'm in full agreement. Our entire lives are too structured nowadays. Working long hours with the aim of "getting it right" and obtaining that supposedly perfect job/family/retirement. All of which can in time become shackles, limiting us and causing us to look back in later years...
Hi all,
I'm arriving on the 26th around midday and starting out on Sunday, the 27th. Aiming to push through to Roncesvalles by day's end. Any company is welcome :)
Just tried it and it worked fine. Must be the netbook ;) See below for today's schedule.

I intend walking without a guidebook. Yes, I have downloaded a basic list of the towns, the distances in between and what amenities they possess, but other than this and questioning the hospitaleros/fellow pilgrims about recommended sights etc. I fully intend my journey to be as unscripted as...
Yes I am, though I have not reserved a bed. Will simply show up and see what's available. By all accounts the first day is for many the most strenuous so sleeping over and then being able to start early is most likely the best option.
Hi Lucy, welcome to the forum!
I'll be starting my first Camino as well from SJPP on 27 April. I'm really looking forward to it! Have a look at the calender under the events section. There you ought to see if anyone is starting on the same date as you.
If you're uncertain about anything...
Hi Wilma,
There is quite a few options available. Firstly are you flying into France or Spain?
Iro France the 2 easiest routes is either flying into Paris and catching a train to Bayonne followed by another to SJPP or flying into Paris, catching a connecting flight to Biarritz and from there...
Hi TamsinEB,
Just watched your first batch of clips and is eagerly awaiting the rest! Doing my first Camino end April and with clips/blogs like these I'm counting off the days. Can't wait!
Regards,
