    Overcrowded Camino Frances

I thought about shipping the suitcase direct to Santiago. But I would be shipping a daily bag regardless (I prefer to carry only a minimal amount while I walk) so paying to ship two bags didn’t make sense.

    Overcrowded Camino Frances

I have heard about that and it is why I transferred a duffel bag last year, just to be safe. I am staying entirely in private accommodations so that shouldn’t be a problem for me. I saw suitcases in many places I stayed last year. Although it might be worth considering the duffel route again...

    Overcrowded Camino Frances

I transferred a duffel bag last year, but this year I will be transferring a suitcase because I will be in Europe for two additional weeks after my Camino as I have a business function afterwards that requires a completely separate wardrobe. I wonder if the fact that more and more people coming...

León to San Martin del Camino alternative route

I stayed at both these locations and highly recommend them as well. Molino Galochas might have been my favorite stop on the Camino. I pulled a calf muscle on the way there and had to arrive by taxi and they really took care of me. They gave me ice for my leg and made me a lunch because I...

Making friends when starting the Camino later

I found it easy to meet people at every stage of the Camino. In fact, while I started in Pamplona, the people I still keep in touch with I met much further along.

Baggage transfer from all hotels or just some?

You can email Correos and ask them whether they can pick up at your location. The fact it isn’t on the list doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t go there. It may be that they will just need the contact information for where you are staying to confirm someone will be there for delivery and...

    Backpack transfer in Porto

I am walking from Porto in May and using Caminofacil to transfer my bag. I am staying in an apartment in Porto so arranged with Caminofacil to meet the driver outside the apartment between 7:45-8:15am the day I leave Porto to give them my bag.

2024 Camino Frances to Santiago de Compostela cost

I walked in May and June last year, 40 days from Pamplona to Santiago. I stayed entirely in private accommodations and didn’t limit what or where I ate. My total cost was about 3800 Euros, or about 95 Euros per day. This total includes all my expenses (including a few pharmacy visits and...

    Camino Frances Social Dynamics

I like walking mostly by myself but enjoy social time with other pilgrims in the evenings. I also stay in all private rooms, so meeting people is sometimes difficult. Luckily I am an introvert so am happy by myself most of the time but I do get to know just a few people at a time for only one...

Elevation Gain: How Challenging are the Hills on the Central Portuguese Camino?

How would you say Labruja compares to O Cebreiro? That was the only day on the Frances where I hated my life as I was walking.

    stopping in Uterga

I stayed at Casa Baztan last year and had a good experience. I had the pilgrim’s dinner there and had lunch across the street at Camino del Perdon and both were good.

What is your favorite (affordable) restaurant on the Camino Frances?

Agree about La Morena. I had a really great pasta with mushroom sauce that was one of my favorite meals on the Camino.

    Topo Wearers!

I used the Topo Mtn Racers and I loved them, especially the wide toe box. I need to get new ones for this year’s Camino.

Looking for Guidebook like the Moon book for the Frances

Yes. I really enjoyed that guide.

Looking for Guidebook like the Moon book for the Frances

I used and enjoyed the Moon guidebook when I walked the Camino Frances last year. This year I am walking the Portugues and I am looking for a similar guidebook. I want something that talks more about what to see in each town. I don’t really need a discussion of the route itself or places to...

Where in Camino Frances (800km) Route Do I need to Spend more Time exploring the Cities/Towns?

I spent 4 nights in Astorga due to an injury and really enjoyed it. I am a huge Gaudi fan and the episcopal palace is among my favorites of his. There was more to see there than I was expecting. I studied in León for a semester when I was in college so I really enjoyed my extra time there...

Listening to music while on the camino

I usually did not listen to music. The only time I did was when I was struggling because it helped me keep going. So I would walk for a song and then stop to recover a bit and walk for another song. I would always walk with just one earbud in though to stay aware of my surroundings.

    What's a Slow Walker?

I average about 3-5km per hour. I could probably walk a little faster but I would rather be slow and comfortable than fast and uncomfortable. I prefer a maximum distance of 20km per day to accommodate my slow pace.

Earthquake in Santiago? Yes, it happened earlier today.

When I was studying in León in 1995 we had a little one like that. Stuff rattled on the shelves like a big truck drove by. Didn’t realize until later that it was an earthquake, my first and only.

    Schwab account questions

I used my Schwab all along the Camino for purchases and paying for lodging as well as ATM withdrawals. There was never a hold put on the card. Not to say it couldn’t happen I suppose, as I think it would be merchant-specific, but it never happened to me.
