It looks as if today's total is just a little short of the 3,000 mark: 2,938 Compostelas issued today. 9,281 in just three days in May. I think these are unprecedented numbers for the time of year. Not sure what conclusions can be drawn from that quite yet but it certainly has surprised me!
Good to hear that things are moving there. Going to be another busy day if there are close on a thousand just after noon! I've been looking at the webcam a little before the Monte do Gozo and it is still very busy on the Camino there despite the weather.
For a reasonable length of time perhaps. There was a short period before Covid when waiting times to receive a Compostela could easily be three or four hours on the busiest of days. The pilgrim office introduced a queue system rather like the tickets at a supermarket deli counter. Take a...
There will probably be upwards of 2,000 people arriving today and wanting to register on the website. You can disregard the browser security warnings and enter the site. Though not everyone will know that or be happy to do so. Haven't tried the registration form myself. Perhaps today will be...
Not the best time for it. Over 3,000 Compostelas yesterday and the same the day before. And now the pilgrim office want people to register via the website before visiting. Getting a big red security warning from your browser is probably not what a couple of thousand arriving pilgrims want to see...
When I go to the pilgrim office website at the moment I am receiving a warning about the website's security certificates. Same on both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers. And if I disregard that and enter the site the main screen no longer gives a count of today's arrivals. Just me or are...
That graph above is for 2022 and 2023 - posted to answer @Luka 's question about earlier years. But I think the time shift element is significant. I've posted this year's arrival graph from solviturambulando below. Again this year's figures are dark red while last year's are pink. The running...
Very unusual to have more than 3,000 at this time of year. More likely in July, August and September.
From the solviturambulando website. Shows last year's daily arrival figures in dark red and the 2022 figures as pale pink for comparison.
The Santiago pilgrim office issued 3,171 Compostelas today. The second time so far this year when the total has been over 3,000. The first was on Good Friday when 3,193 Compostelas were handed out.
September is still a very busy time and the office is unlikely to close much earlier than 7pm then. Even in winter they are usually open until 6pm. All the reports I have read recently say that the new computerised system for registering and issuing Compostelas makes the process very fast -...
Which feast? 25 June does not appear to be a major festival. Do you mean 25 July? - the feast of St James? If so the chances of getting a seat at the principal mass are minimal. Most of the seats are reserved for official guests.
Last week I saw a Facebook post from a volunteer in the cathedral sacristy which suggested that it might be back in use by June. Nothing definite though.
There was a post this morning in a Facebook group where one of the volunteers who works in the cathedral sacristy stated that the botafumeiro is still out of use and may be possibly be back in use by June.
November apparently. I'm told the Archbishop was presiding at a mass when a screw from the support mechanism landed on the altar! Seemed like a good idea to check it out thoroughly after that....
