Has the dog “policy” on the Camino changed?

Oh, was an uncontrolled dog the proximal cause of the injuries to the two pilgrims we heard about earlier? That's a very painful lesson. :/

Would it be overkill to bring both a rain jacket and the Altus poncho in Oct/Nov?

A buff is a thin piece of stretchy fabric sewn into a tube that can be worn around the neck or neck and face. https://www.wikihow.com/Wear-BUFF%C2%AE-Headwear#:~:text=BUFF%C2%AE%20multifunctional%20headwear%20is,sun%2C%20and%20keeps%20you%20warm.

Would it be overkill to bring both a rain jacket and the Altus poncho in Oct/Nov?

For the OP...we call a wind shirt a windbreaker, as far as I can tell.

    Pilgrimage - selfish?

::: chuckle::: Who's assuming that the people the OP met don't want a better world?

    Pilgrimage - selfish?

As always...it seems to be a bit more complicated than that. https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/spain-braces-wildfires-beef-farmers-battle-red-tape-2024-03-02/

    Stage 28

I searched out her posts. She was planning to start the Frances from SJPdP on April 3rd. My assumption is that she means either Brierley's or Gronze's Stage 28. Robo probably has it dialed in correctly.

    Pilgrimage - selfish?

Quite true, VN...OP may not have known that. May of 22, wasn't it? Or May 23. Given the number of salmon protected streams I crossed over on that Way, and the number of small farms that remained along that Way, I don't know if OP knew how much of the Primitivo is along private land, or on a...

LIVE from the Camino K's Primitivo 24

:::chuckle::: That's a bit more limiting on the Primitivo in the early stages than on the Frances. Strongly recommend Gronze plus Wise Pilgrim or Buen Camino to see all your possibilities. The potential is that the bubble poor Kari is stuck in will dissipate soon, as the May 1 holiday ends...

    The Camino will provide?

...loved one(s) died, or left them, or hurt them. They may not have the job, family, children, life, that they longed for. These souls have a * lot* of trouble calming their anxiety enough to even start Camino, and they often try to manage that anxiety by trying to control as much as...

    Hiking Pole Rehoming Service?

This topic has come up several times. To summarize, its not an economic model that works. I spent a fraction over 11 euro to mail my poles and a lightly used guidebook back to the municipal albergue in Oviedo where I started, with a donation note. Consider doing the same, or send to a pilgrims...

If there are too many pilgrims, what is a pilgrim to do?

:::chuckle::: OTOH, those of us who are visiting St James in memory of the souls of others may still have a few souls left in the queue. In Vicarie Pro only permits one name at a time.... 😉 I am blessed by the people I meet on Camino, and I try to let the Lord work in me to bless them... but...

    Chilly camino

Not judging from all the other threads about recent full albergues... OP, definitely tongue in cheek, but since you're going to see the bones of one who may have touched the Divine ( to shamelessly steal @Tincatinker wonderful phrase), you may want to consider praying in St James' belief...

LIVE from the Camino K's Primitivo 24

Depending on your plan, you may want to wander up to the churches about when they open, and then hopefully follow a GPS track to the Primitivo. Consider stopping in Escamplero as a shorter stage. (I toured the churches the day before I started, so didn't go that way).

    Travel agency suggestions?

To actually answer your question... ;) ... I used CaminoWays in 2021 for Sarria- Santiago for me and my husband, and was quite satisfied. I had no apps on my smartphone at the time ( not even this forum, as I hadn't learned about it), and only a copy of the Brierley guide, which did its best...

    Cruceiro in Miami

Can you outrun a hungry alligator? 😋 If not, I'd suggest doing this one by mechanized transport. South FL has a *lot* of alligators, and a lot of roads that go by water.

    Commercial walking stunt from Wolksvagen

:::chuckle:::There's a huge difference between: working full time in an area of the US that is only car accessible ( and is 7 crime filled miles from my apartment) and traveling by train on weekends to work on the family farm; and going on Camino. Since I'm not going back on Camino until 2025...

    Commercial walking stunt from Wolksvagen

...when walking on roads in the dawn or twilight, or camping where black bears are present, or being in the woods during hunting season. You *want* the car to see you. You *want* the average black bear to know you're coming, so they can leave. You * want* the hunter to know you're human...

    Feast Day Mass

Attend Mass the day before, or check the website for the *earliest* Mass on the 25 ( there won't be a " normal" schedule). As Bradypus said, the primary Mass(es) are reserved for local officials, and sometimes national ones.

    What's changed?

...them both times (Sarria to Santiago and the Primitivo), but others have complained recently of bedbugs in Tricastela. I will note that there is *no* sheet nor essential oil that will protect you. If you choose to pretreat *all* your gear with permethrin, you won't prevent bedbugs from...

Thoughts/suggestions for flights from NYC to Porto?

Experience with TAP Portugal in 2021 and 2023, Madrid to IAD and then IAD MADRID-IAD. Went through Lisbon each time. Other than transiting through Lisbon customs, I would highly recommend TAP Portugal. Comfortable, clean, good service, and depending on the fare class you choose, you can...
