Love the Chinese shops, in Albox where we lived in the South, we had 3 around the town and local pueblos, Arboleas, la prada. For the most part the families that own and run these shops are a happy bunch, but we came across one last year on the way, he was a card, he chatted everybody up...
I don't know if changing anything is relevant, I mean this, in that, every walk is different, every destination a different experience, places I’ve strolled through in earlier pilgrimages, have become major stopping off points in later Caminos.
I’ve met the worst of albergue owners, waiters...
'A People Betrayed' by Paul Preston is an especially good book on contemporary Spanish history, an eye opening book which I’ve had to read twice, I see parallels here in the Uk currently, which frighten the hell out of me.
I’d love to see some suggestions from folks on Spanish authors, as...
I like trail runners, I have even waled the Camino in Merrell water shoes, which in 2018/9 seasons had a really good hard toe box, super light, breathable, but the lacing system let them down.
I think folks should try a variety of shoes, some brands won’t fit you, or your feet, I'd buy the shoe...
...I had two instances in August that left me reeling, but that same day I had some locals really help me out.
Like it or not, there are some right sods on the way, simple as that, dont like them, just walk away from them and let them get on with their S*^^t...
Good luck to you, stick with it...
Wear what you want, as long as you ware something!
Seriously, I bought a few pairs of SAXX, which were good, but if you are worried about rub, then a small tub of Sudocrem always does the business, I ordered a small pot from a Faramcia in Santiago last week, was there the next day, cost me 10...
We live in Wales, and we get over there every year. When I lived there, in the South nr Albox/Arboleas, I went on Pilgrimage less! Spain can be expensive in allot of ways, cheap coffee and Beer / Vino seems to trick Brits and other ex pats living there, but they soon realise they have to put...
So you are confirming NB, thats the road, if you take a right at where it crosees it ends up at the bridge going into Molinaseca?
What I liked when I got to the bottom, was a cafe and Tortilla, and getting my feet in the river, the peligrino's dream that!
I was wondering, when I came down the mountain, there was a road that crosses the path, and a very happy guy selling coffee and tea, which was very welcome :-)
Well that road, surely is the same road that approches the bridge in Molinaseca? meanig you can skip the rock run and walk the road...
It's easy going after Molinaseca, but coming down that mountain is like running down a rock run! it's pretty wild... take your time, and make sure you plce your foot...!
Always hard coming back, one year I only did the leg between Logroño and Burgos, as I had a week free, count your blessings you got to Santiago, leaving friends, not completing and coming home all bundled together is one whopping shock I can tell you!!
You will come round, best thing, do...
Thanks for all your suggestions, we found a great solution; we just hire a car!
We leave in our own time, obviously pre-arranged pick up from Santiago Train Station, big drive on the day, but we can stay the night in Burgos en-route back, and drop the car at Bilbao Airport... no messing, all...
Hi folks, anybody made this trip reciently? we have a day to get back from Santiago to Bilbao, whats the best way? i.e cost against duration etc.
Anybody used the bus for this route before?
Malcolm
Hola Terence, if you fly out to or from Santiago de Compestella, you have to stop in Madrid, and vice versa.
If you are flying in to start your pilgrimage any where else along the French route, or others that walk East to West, unless you are travelling from just over the French border, Bristol...
Hola Chicos, hope you are well. Can’t find anything on this, but does anybody know where I can get a pilgrim passport for a journey in late July / Aug.
I always got my passports from the office in SJPP, but this year my wife and I will likely fly or get a train from the UK to Bilbao, then...
