    Norte and Primitivo 2025

Anywhere from free to €1,000,000!!!! Seriously, how can one answer that question without you providing some key bits of info like: where are you starting from? How many days are you walking? Are you cooking your own food or having pilgrim meals or Michelin-starred restaurant experiences...

    Sample itinerary for Camino Norte

I’m a bit older and far less fit then you, but did Bilbao to SdC in 20 days this past April, so 30 days from Irun is certainly doable. I also did several of the longer variants, too, and stayed on the Norte all the way until it reached the Santiago airport. You’ll also have the advantage of...

Following the coast instead of going inland via Bilbao

Guernika also has a great Market Day once a week with a wonderful selection of dried meats, cheeses, veggies, and more. Plus to stand in the school plaza and view the replica mural was a very moving part of my Camino

    Our Camino Parcel Saga

Or one can try to pack less, removing the necessity to ship everything back home! It’s not only bad for the pocket back, but also not so great for the environment. If each pilgrim spent a few days actually walking with their fully packed bag prior to leaving, so much of this waste would be...

    Cadiz-Sevilla September 2024

Many of the locals call it the combination, “cafe especial” 😂. It can be any local sherry/brandy

Percentage of albergues that close in the Fall?

It’s more difficult and you may have to walk longer stages, but there are enough Albergues open in the off-season that you can do it (and late October is still considered the regular season on most routes). Your best bet is to look at Gronze.com or similar for closure dates. Note that they can...

Comparing two climbs ~ Spiritual Variante to Armentiera vs Camino Frances to Orisson.

It’s funny, because we struggled climbing to Armenteira! However, I think that was mostly the result of it being at the end of a long day of walking. Orisson was steep, but so short that we didn’t have time to feel worn out.

    How to go to Finisterre?

Bus leaves from the main bus/train terminal. Depending on the season and how crowded it is, you can buy your ticket ahead of time or from a window there - I’d advise an advance purchase of a roundtrip ticket! MONBUS operates the route. It’s a 2.5hr bus ride there, but a bit shorter on the...

    Norte and Primitivo 2025

So you’ll still be competing with vacationers and surfers while walking on some parts of the Norte in September, which means low cost accommodations can fill up early. If so, you’ll be paying higher-than-expected accommodation costs because it’s a vacation area at the end of summer. Definitely...

When did they start playing the bagpipes in the Praza do Obradoiro?

My grandfather came over from Portugal in the late early 1910s. At our annual festa West Sacramento, he always insisted on having bagpipes in the procession because it reminded him “of the old country.” What a treat for me to hear them and think of my Papa as I finished my first Camino years ago.

    Madrid airport accommodations

It’s very easy to walk, there is little traffic, and it’s very safe. If you land at T4, there is a FREE shuttle that takes you to T1/2/3, where it’s a short walk to the village. Our hotel had a free shuttle, but it was actually faster to simply walk then to wait until the shuttle was available...

April 2025 and Easter pros and cons

Much of Spain will be traveling Holy Week, so trains/planes/buses will be packed those two weekends. Definitely avoid that! Walking during Holy Week is completely dependent on what part of what Camino you are on. A lot of Europeans take that opportunity to walk a section, so I’d avoid walking...

Have to rebook October camino. How would mid April be different?

It’ll be colder, but not to the point that you couldn’t do it. Some albergues may not be open, but you can work that out later. I usually walk in April and love it because the locals aren’t worn down by the previous months of overwhelming tourist and pilgrim numbers.

Walked the Camino over 12 times to Santiago never once went into Cathedral.

It’s your life and you can do what you like. I think it’s odd to continually walk a path that is literally to a place that you don’t visit, but you do you. For me, I like to visit key places in cities I visit, religious or secular.

Blue coloured berries growing wild alongside the Camino Aragonés??

Never underestimate the ability of humans to take something too tart and inedible and make it into alcohol! Sloe gin in the UK is made by soaking the blackthorn berries in gin. They are a relative of plums.

    Update from Somport please

Shouldn’t be a problem and it’s a lovely time to walk.

    lourdes to fatima

It’s a really, REALLY long way! I’ve walked all of those component parts and essentially you are looking at three separate major walks: Piemonte from Lourdes to SJPdP, Frances from SJPdP to Santiago, and the Central Portuguese with the Fatima variant. 50+ days depending upon your speed. You...

Non-Camino walk with short, easy stages?

my wife and I have walked 10 or so routes and generally enjoy hiking/walking daily. But my god, the Fisherman’s Trail?!!?!? That was by far the hardest route of all. I understand that it seems so simple - costal, relatively flat, nice villages - but it was definitely challenging and NOT for a...

How to get to the Santiago bus station since taxis won’t reserve for this.

She is looking for a taxi to the bus station, not the airport. Her hotel is only a few blocks away, hence the concern that a taxi wouldn’t want that fare.
