Notwithstanding your emoji and status as a moderator, and as I have no say on what is allowed, I find there is too much "no knowledge" on the forum. :-( There are threads where people want information, and there are other threads where "no knowledge" is obviously part of the banter, or...
I think this clarifies the issue perfectly.
PS: my 48 L pack is quite light and only a small amount heavier than the 40L version. I can carry everything I need and the 48 is much more usable than the 40L would have been, for the way I like to enjoy my Caminos.
@frank john I have a memory...
We are all different, but here is my take:
I've done a lot of walking and would never risk my feet. If my shoe-insole-sock combination weren't in reasonably good order, I would take a bus or taxi to somewhere to fix the problem. After all I want to be able to walk for many years to come.
After...
When I was a boy, chargers were very simple devices. I could make one without much difficulty. Today a ludicrous thought.
But now, briefly, they are not. The lightest weight should not be the priority (see FIRE below)
In the last few years they have become quite exotic with an extensive...
Notwithstanding your admiral tack record on this forum for excellent contributions, I think there can be more nuance to this choice. Minimal weight is better considered against function in all its parameters, and in addition even aesthetics if that is important.
When I went down the rabbit...
They are very good, not similar to any other type I have seen, and provide excellent value IMO.
If you would like to buy them, then not buying them is false economy in the context of all the expenses of doing a Camino.
This could be pinned at the top of many threads.
If you haven't done a lot ofwalking, sadly, you're out of luck and won't know until you have tried various things over a few thousand kms. Just think that a first Camino is a learning experience for many dimensions of your life, and for most of...
Yes but the assumption I made was you had a fixed distance to walk for the Camino you intend to walk. Say point X to Santiago Cathedral and you had a notional plan of so many days.
Of course you could plan a longer Camino BECAUSE you had poles, and burn about the same energy and be in better...
A little approximate physics: the burn rate may increase from faster walking because of the poles, but during a shorter time so the overall burn for the day about the same.
And some of the burn is in the upper body (helping faster walking if desired) thus less burn (for the day) in the legs...
No doubt quite a few "someone elses" have that view, but it is equally true all the other someone elses have a different view or have insufficient experience to have formed a view. I am suspect that Robo included that as an implied statement and the people asking this question will eventually...
It is interesting how we all have our preferences. I have enjoyed using them for a few thousand kms. And will be using an even better improved pair next walk.
2 poles in my opinion are essential. A staff is dysfunctional.
People have done research on poles and it is useful to know this stuff
- sadly the relevant papers are lost in this computer somewhere
- someone might ask ChatGPT or other?
In addition or clarification to Robo they provide bodily...
Organic Maps is free open source by (some of ?) the original Maps.me team. Fundamentally the same but Organic Maps doesn't have all the (commercial) added complexity in the evolution of maps.me. After many year of maps.me I moved to organic maps some time ago.
As you say kml/kmz are the usual...
