You may walk from Villafranca to O'Cebreiro via Ruta Dragonte. Most people would get off that and continue on CF Las Herrerias. Alternatively, you may walk from Villafranca via Paradela to the outskirts of Trabadelo. After O'Cebreiro, you're stuck on asphalt most of the time.
Well, if you're not that fit, you will without any doubt think, when you reach Orisson those first five miles will be enough. Or you could walk one km further to Borda. But believe me, it's up the mountain to Borda as soon as you get out of St-Jean-Pied-de-Port. And if it's a hot day, I...
I've heard, that Casa Magica was closed, too, and that it had been empty for some time. But I've also heard, that it had new owners. But it was closed, when I visited it in April, but it may have been due to siesta. Anyway, if you go to booking.com, they accept bookings for Casa Magica in...
Please, can anyone tell me, the Sisters of the Sacred Heart still are at Zabaldika. I've noticed, when you look up the albergue on alberguescaminosantiago.com, it's said that volunteers are from Federación de Asociaciones de Amigos del Camino de Santiago.
I remember reading somewhere about the former use of that concrete building just before Irotz. Really, it doesn't seem to be anything but a ruin. I just wondered, who's responsible of building the site, and what it has been used for. maps.google mentions, it's 'antigua fábrica ruinas'. Anybody...
Thanks for your replies. All of you. You're right. Somehow, I did get the hotel Akerreta and the village of the same name all mixed up and would have the hotel placed in the village. Now, I know ... thanks.
I walked the Frances in April and May, and followed the signs. I did get to Akorreta and noticed the hotel, where Tom in The Way had his first night. But come to think of it, I didn't walk that way on my first Frances four years ago. And checking maps.google, I notice the Camino de Santiago...
Santiago's a city, and things ARE more expensive here. And in some Places more noisy and aggressive, too. No doubt about that. But it still is Santiago and maybe the most magnificent cityin the World. Gabriel Marcia Marquez said, in the rain it was the most beautiful city in the World.
Nice post. Except for the bit about The Holt Grail. In my humble opinion it is a must to see and defintely a good shot at bring the original. Just check its background.
No matter if it would physically ok, the ides of the Camino - for me anyway - is not to jump ahead. Take your time, and smell the roses - as one Australien pilgrim kept teleinfrastruktur me. It would be sich a shame to hurry through this magnificent, beautiful stage. Enjoy your Camino.
In medieval times pilgrims crossed Río Sil in a ferry. Maybe, if the route turns out to be popular, this could be an option today, too. The pilgrims went to Congosto, crossed the Sil, continued to Cubillos del Sil and Cabañas Raras beore joining the Frances at Cacabelos.
No hisorical basis? Oh boy, this is one of the routes with most historical basis. This is the old monasterio route with lots of monasteries. Alone the presence of Monasterio de San Juan de Montealegre would make the detour worthwhile.
