I, too, can experience frustration at the use (abuse?) of the phrase "the Camino provides." On the one hand, it does - in so many ways, most of which have already been mentioned in all of these thoughtful replies. I love that about the Camino. But I walk expecting it to provide lessons and...
**Update** I reached out to the developer and a fix is in! unistalled the app again, and reinstalled the new updated version, and it works like a charm again!
Hi! I am 15 days out from my Camino, and suddenly my Buen Camino app is crashing every time I try to look at my stages! I have rebooted...
I don't know if you will find this helpful, BUT... I made a color copy of the info page of my US passport and laminated it. My passport stayed safely secured, and I was able to use that laminated card to check in everywhere along the Camino and in the hotel in Madrid afterwards.
I had thought to bring my Swiss Army knife, but found it too heavy for "just in case." Instead, I brought a corkscrew similar to this. It weighed almost nothing, but I did in fact need both the corkscrew and the little blade. This and my titanium spork, and I was covered!
It certainly didn't feel like that... There was asphalt, yes, but lots of beautiful wooded paths, passing through farmland, etc. We loved it. Hope you find what you are looking for!
I would vote for the Inglés (which I just completed last month) simply because your time frame allows you to complete the entire Camino, rather than just the "last 100-120km." The Inglés is lovely, and not crowded.
It's just posting to one house. And of course I have considered picking them up in Lisbon, and if need be, I will. As I said, I have OCD, so I prefer to have things in place. So it never hurts to ask, does it?
**Update: Big thanks to jungleboy for the recommendation - Via Lusitana is sending me the credentials!**
I am planning to do the Camino Portugués in a few months, and would love to get our pilgrim credentials in advance, as my priest will again do a blessing of us and our gear before we go, and...
I hate ridiculously tiny pockets!
I ordered a pair of zip off pants that could be pants, capris, or shorts - but the pockets zipped off if you made them shorts!!! #@&!! What the heck!!!
I used these pants in the Amazon:
Little Donkey Andy Women's Stretch Convertible Pants, Zip-Off Quick-Dry...
I had ordered a solar power bank to replace my old one, thinking I could hang it on my pack while I walked to charge it. It weighed A TON, and the "updated" version had no hanging loop. Fail on all levels.
A friend loaned me a small lightweight one, which was a godsend. There were several days...
My journey TO the Camino was supposed to be Belize - Miami - London - Madrid, reaching Thursday evening to get rested before our train the next morning. BUT:
Flight from Belize to Miami got diverted to Orlando. Orlando Immigration wasn't set up to receive us, so we spent a couple of hours on...
In my case, being on the Camino forged a deep, focused CONNECTION that hadn't been present in my daily life. It made me realize that a lot of my anxieties, restlessness, etc, have been my soul trying to tell me that this connection is exactly what I've been missing. Once I found it, I feel a...
I think that if a person goes with a checklist of specific questions you want answered, you may be disappointed at the end. Going with an open mind and open heart, on the other hand, allows you to discover the answers you hadn't realized you NEEDED. Buen Camino!
