Surprised at our test results poncho vs jacket

Walked in solid rain for two weeks on CF last October. Light weight rain jacket, plastic rain pants, pack cover and dry bags worked for me with a cheap, hand held umbrella. My shoes weren't particularly wet and I was warm.

Pacemaker Implant Surgery Tomorrow. A New Phase for Future Caminos.

Yeh, great report. I forgot about a male walker at masters athletics who had it done 18 years ago and still going well at 72.

Maybe a little late with my planning for le Puy...

I finished in Pamplona as I loved walking the Pyrenees. Yes, it was an anticlimax but I think it was because it was my second camino I knew what to expect.

Pacemaker Implant Surgery Tomorrow. A New Phase for Future Caminos.

I play tennis with a 72 year old who had the pacemaker inserted about 5 years ago. He is active as before.

    Stomach Bug on Meseta

I do understand what you mean however I didn't like the octopus very much and can live without food trucks. I have never been so violently unwell.

Maybe a little late with my planning for le Puy...

I stayed at YHA in Le Puy. Didn't prebook. I bought the credential at the book shop at the cathedral with the Miam dodo book. I caught the train and bus from Lyon to Le Puy. Didn't prebook. I booked one day ahead either at the tourist office in town where they spoke english or by asking the...

New Camino Movie -The Way My Way - World Premiere

We saw this movie today. Not our cup of tea. Liked the scenery. Storyline poor. It seemed to focus on the main character and miss the towns and history of Spain. One thing it didn't show was all the pilgrims walking the camino nor albergue life. Enjoyed the movie with Martin Sheen much...

    Stomach Bug on Meseta

I ate pulpo gallego in Santiago one evening. The next day I caught a plane to Paris and stayed at the airport hotel. I ate cold pasta from a food truck out the front. He told me it was hot. I was violently ill six hours later. I had to move rooms in the middle of the night and then catch a...

    If You Are Sick

Sure however I could have caught it easily from him let alone all the other pilgrims he most likely infected with his droplets. I do understand that he may not have been able to afford a private room and that is the risk one takes in sharing.

    Post-camino fitness

I am 69. It took me about a week on arriving home to recover after walking the CF. I was aching all over. It just went away. I did have a cold for two weeks and gastro in France before getting on the plane.

    If You Are Sick

Of course it could but I find the donativos more crowded.

    If You Are Sick

I know how you are feeling. I caught a cold for two weeks from a pilgrim snotting, sneezing and blowing in the top bunk next to me. It was a donativo albergue with the beds close together and I was in a bottom bunk next to him. I booked private rooms when I got sick. This is one reason why I...

    The Camino will provide?

I am organised but like all human beings I make mistakes. On my first camino, I left my hiking poles at an albergue. There was no-one in the albergue when I left and couldn't retrieve my poles. I emailed the albergue owner who kindly sent them to my next albergue destination. Last October...

LIVE from the Camino Account of a very challenging day SJPdP to Roncesvalles (crazy weather)

Hi Garlic bread, I am glad you are safe. I walked the Napoleon route twice in brilliant sunshine. I do remember the emergency huts however there were pilgrims in there resting from the heat. I also recall the rocks with plaques where pilgrims had died. I walked the last two weeks in October...

Pee Cloth - leave no trace

I must confess I am a jiggler too. I shower and wash underwear and long pants as soon as I arrive. Less fuss for me.

    Alert Theft at Roncesvalles

I have been backpacking for 40 plus years. I always wear a money belt under my clothes plus a bum bag with my phone over my clothes. They go to the shower with me. Even the bum bag goes in the sleeping bag. I wear the money belt to bed. The only time I don't do this is when i rent a locker...

    VDLP two weeks in

I do understand how you are feeling. I did the camino from Le Puy in France with school girl french and about six English speaking pilgrims. There were plenty of little villages but it was nowhere near as enjoyable as the CF last year. Have you thought about getting on a bus to CF?

Would a summer sleeping bag be enough on the Camino Frances (and possibly camino Invierno) in September/October?

Hi. I walked CF last October. The first two weeks were hot above 30 degrees Celsius and the third and fourth week it was cold and wet. I took a 600 gm Decathlon sleeping bag 60 Australian dollars and it was fine10-20 degrees Celsius . A lot of the private albergues had blankets and the...

    Injinji Wool Liners Only?

I have wide feet and have trouble getting shoes to fit. I have worn ininji sox solo but not by choice. I purchased New Balance shoes with vibram soles in my size however they weren't big enough. I had worn this size in New Balance runners for years Previously I wore ininji sox and merino...

    Sleeping bag and lock

I used a lock a couple of times staying at hostels on the way to the start of the walk..
