I use a simple hand held umbrella. New balance runners weren't very wet despite two weeks of solid rain. Just put newspaper in at night. Sometimes replaced it once.

Last year I bought them in the shop opposite the pilgrim office for 20 euros each. Personally, I would not wait until Pamplona. Your knees will be thankful. Walking to Roncesvalles and Zubiri has steep downhill parts.
